Crazy guy? (road rage)

I've had a similar thing happen to me and the guy drives up besides me and asks if I want to fight? Naw.....not gonna do that one.

I've also had a car almost T-bone me from two lanes to my right when I was entering the on-ramp from the single lane to do so. He stopped me dead with my brakes scrunching, and then he barrels onward. I was so mad! And I was also in a Honda civic while he was in a Mustang. The point being, after you take the breather, is realizing the intoxicating effects of anger, and then logically considering its aftermath. What if you do catch him? What if he has a gun? What if he has buddies?

The point being, I wonder sometimes that those who do let ego get away from them, were these sometimes the victims as well as the instigators of violence when you hear about an argument that causes death or serious injury? And how much they, if they can or could, regret taking that extra step into the dark side of things...no matter how righteously they thought it when angry?

Better to leave well enough alone than find out the hard way.

I was right. I said they wouldn't pull HALF that nonsense, I didn't say they wouldn't pull ANY of that nonsense. You just happened to see "that half which was pulled."

I still don't understand..

A couple years ago I was driving home after a long full day of hunting. As I was completely exhausted and realized I was nowhere near "the top of my game" I set the cruise speed low just to try to be safe. Minivan comes up behind me not extremely close but far too close for comfort or relaxation and although oncoming traffic is rare he/she does not pass. Ok I slow to encourage pass, van slows. I slow again, Van slows, repeat, repeat, finally I pull over on the shoulder and stop. Van passes. Good now I can relax and enjoy my ride, music, and my coffee. No such luck. Less than two miles down the road the van is stopped on the shoulder, I go around and the van comes back on the road and resumes tailgating. Same story almost no oncoming traffic but he/she does not pass again multiple fruitless slowing in an attempt to encourage a pass, no result until again I pull over and stop. Repeat!! It all happens a third time!!! ARRRGGHH. This time I turn on to a side road a go about a mile where we cannot see one another stop and wait about five minutes then return to the highway and continue on the few remaining miles to my hometown. Before I get to my house a city cop pulls me over and explains that they have had a complaint of me/I]I]driving erratically....... Aaaarrrggghhh......I must praise the officer for his professionalism as he listened to a verry very tired very not happy me tell my side of the story and let me go home to bed.

After we talked about hunting for a while..:D:D

Whats a guy to do???

Long story short, this guy was acting like a complete maniac because he thought (I guess) that I cut him off. In my younger years, I'd have prolly pulled over and we could have had an official 'airing of our grievances' but with my family (including my 2 yr old) in the car, I'm thinking of calling the police substation and driving straight there.

My old man told me along time ago that everyone drives on the freeway. Bankers, lawyers, police, DA's, people that have just robbed banks, people that have dead bodies or pounds of Cocain in their car... Everyone drives on the freeway, so be EXTRA careful. If somene wants to act like a maniac, watch them and move to condition Orange, in case the guy is just a distraction for something / someone else, but 9 times out of 10 you don't have to take direct action at all.

I would be been mega freaked about the behavior of that person in the mini... I mean bad horror movies have scenes like that in them.

Said tailgater continues to tailgate me. Oh, I COULD have pulled off the road for him so that he could pass. But I've learned that the source of most of my flat tires has been the shoulders of the roads around here. Hell, I actually got a flat after Katrina when I pulled over to fix ANOTHER flat. That was fun times. After about 11 flat tires, I am not hitting the shoulder unless someone is on fire.

I can feel for you about the flats. Here in Texas we have many roads with shoulders wide enough for driving. On my daily trip home from work I drive US 79 which has such a shoulder, but stay in the driving lane until my right turn off. The reason two flats within about 18 months, both sudden deflations due to large bolts puncturing the tire. One was a new tire only about a week old, lug nuts were on so tight I had to drive it flat a little over a mile to the house and use an impact wrench to remove. The dealer heard about that, and retorqued everything after replacing the tire at no charge. I figure the state police will some day stop me for not moving over to turn and I shall tell them why. Absolutly no more driving on shoulders for me unless I have to stop for an emergency.

This is one of the reasons I carry FMJ. Great for penetrating car doors. Again, watch out for innocent bystanders.

Just yesterday, I was driving out to the range, doing my usual 70 in the fast lane. Everything was fine, with the center lane moving about 3 or 4 mph slower, and no-one competing with me. From a long way back, I see a Chevy PU gaining on me at a good 20 mph. He gets near, and I have a string of cars in the center, so I stay put. He keeps coming, and locks in way too close for comfort. Well, I brake for tailgaters; hard enough to let them know that this BS will cease immediately.
He recovered, and then just paced me very near on my right side. First, I unholstered the P-95, without brandishing, and then I got on the phone to 311.
I was impressed that NHP is very serious and professional in dealing with this. He kept gesturing that he wanted me to pull over, but he noticed that I was not worried, and on the phone.
Stupid though he was, he did exit at the next ramp. Dispatch was very cool and professional. I got the clear impression that we were on the same page.
Upon returning home, I was glad to note that I hadn't fired a single shot with the 9 that day. It felt like driving over nails and not getting a flat.
Maybe I will put the sign back up in my rear window:
"If you can read this, I can slam on my brakes and SUE you".

Had an incident a long time ago, long time ago. I was on my way to work in the city. Well my bmw had some really damn good sound muffling + I was listening intently to Walton and Johnson morning show. This dude in front of me just abruptly pulls over and comes to a screaming halt, scared the crap out of me. I kept going, then about 8 seconds later I heard the sirens and saw an Ambulance literally 30 feet behind me. So I pull over, let him pass....

When I started to go, that damn car came up and attempted to run me off the road. I had the torque though and managed to squeek away, but he was persistent. He came up on me again trying to cut around me, only thing that saved me was the fact that I had a faster car. I thought about pulling over, but figured he probably had a gun (I was 18 at the time). So I saw the light ahead of me go yellow, did the only thing I could think of... blow through the light doing about 80. Speed limit was 35. Not the smartest thing I ever did, but damn I was kinda scared. Who gets pissy over not hearing an ambulance?

Haven't had many incidents since, at least not worth writing about. Half the time I just speed off since few cars are able to catch me now.

No offense, but go open a history book and name me a time when we in the US have "lived in peace". We are a violent culture, born in blood and sustained there. That is what freedom is all about. PASSION.

I will admit that things seem to have gotten worse, but it tracks with the frontier days and some of the 20's / 60's and 80's-90's

Since you were listening to Walton and Johnson, I have to assume you live in South Louisiana.

There's your problem right there-- Louisiana drivers

I listen to Walton and Johnson on the way to work, too. That or Rush Radio.

FYI: The incident that I described on this thread was in South Louisiana as well.

(Don't get mad at me LA guys. I'm having a little fun, and I drive in LA more than I do in MS-- so I'm really one, too.)

Maybe it's the fact that everyone feels the need to place blame on outside factors. No one is responsible for their own actions these days. It's just easier to blame the media, The Man, ect.

I'm just saying...
