saw a beautiful wood stocked 308 mauser, with apparently a semi custom bbl. [it didn't have the rear sight on the bbl.]; had a peep sight mounted on the right side of the rear of the reciever.
As I've never worked on, owned or shot a sporterized mauser, I wuz wondering about a scope mount? the rear of the reciever has a ridge
higher than the rest of the reciever (understand this is normal) so that leaves out a scope mount drilled there; someone said there is a side mount? And yes, I need a scope to ring out the distance I'm trying to push a 168gr. HPBT. It''s also my "shoots farther than a 30-30" deer rifle.
If I could mount a conventional scope, would I have to have the bolt handle & safety changed to use normal scope rings, or use high rings?
It's a beautiful gun, with a 22" semi-varmit type bbl.; swings great, bore looks good & the rest just has alot of history from whomever built & owned this gun before. I'm just wondering if it's too much trouble mounting a scope on it; I don't want to spend more than $200 or so on a mount, and as it is I may need an EER scope, or if I can find a mount, a scout scope would be ok.
Sorry, I have no pictures, but what say ye? thanks
