I've read that it is inaccurate to say that the CZ75 design is "based on the Hi-Power", because the mechanism is significantly different (more complex) and the action offers SA or DA trigger pulls.

So here's my question, for those that know there way around the internals of CZs and Hi-Powers.

Is the CZ-75B SA, or is the CZ-75B Omega mechanism more like the Hi-Power.

And my follow on question....

I want to get a pistol for range use that is...

1. full size, steel frame.
2. very accurate
3. has a nice light and crisp SA trigger
4. can be had for ~$500 (to include any aftermarket trigger parts or smithing)

Honestly, I find that CZ offers so many models and variations of models that their product line is rather confusing.

What CZ pistol would best fit me.

In all honesty... I really want a Hi-Power, but am not going to shell out $900 for one, when CZ makes pistols that perform as well or better for so much less.

The SAO version of the CZ would be the closest equivalency to the BHP. There are also rough equivalencies between them in size, general shape and weight, but otherwise they are quite different. I've never understood where this "CZs are like BHPs" business got started.

I don't think there's much in common with BHPs and CZs. That being said it meets all of your qualifications. I have a DA/SA and I like it. It's a very accurate and reliable pistol.

thanks for the link Herbie...

that article sums it up well... there's some evolutionary progress form the BHP that carries over to the CZ, but the CZ is really a completely different pitsol
