I recently realized that the reason my slide was causing me problems was because the hold open spring was not in place, after fixing this problem I noticed that when the slide is locked back and I eject the magazine, the slide slams forward automaticly. How can I fix this?

I replaced the hold open catch with no luck, I am about to just take it to a pistol smith and see if they can figure it out.

That should be a simple problem to fix.
Look at the slide stop and the corresponding recess in the slide. The mating surfaces should be fairly sharp and not showing any rounding or damage.

Also, make sure the slide stop is able to raise into the cutout properly. As it is external, you can push it up with your thumb to lock the slide.

If you put it on manually and the slide stays put like it should, then you have a problem with the mag not pushing it up far enough.

That could be from wear, or the slide stop or follower are bent. Easy to determine what is wrong and correct. Shouldn't be a need to visit the gun doctor.

I should of stated in my frist post that I can infact manually push up the hold open catch to get the slide to stay back properly. If it is a magazine problem I am surprised because both mags dont work, anyway how would I go about fixing the magazines? I was told the follower should be bent but I dont want to screw up my mags.

Mine has the opposite problem- slide sticks locked open when that catch is dirty. I see why people put that aftermarket thumblever on.

Maybe the slide is worn and that is why its not staying locked back, hopefuly not though.

If you insert your mags into the frame..minus slide...do they push the slide stop all the way up? If they do, then you have a problem with the stop or the slide surfaces being worn or damaged.

Seeing as you can lock the slide back manually, I would imagine that you will find something lacking in your mags lifting that lever.

Just a thought....are these original military mags or late replacement types? I have some NON-original mags that work just fine but have trouble locking the slide back sometimes. They lift the latch all the way only if I push them up into the magwell. The latch won't hold them up high enough by itself. If that is the case, well, getting original military mags would probably solve the problem or you could shim the base a bit so the latch holds them up better.
