That said.... I agree with Snake Eyes' assessment of the picture. Haven't a clue where or when it was taken, but the empty magwell and off-axis barrel have always led me to believe it isn't nearly the "dummy shot" some here say it is.

Agreed, there. As long as it wasn't pointing at his head and the mag was out, I think it's actually pretty safe procedure, there.

What else could you do? Put it muzzle-down in the Vietnam jungle and possibly plug the barrel with mud?
