Did I just screw up?

Better? Probably somewhat. Internet snobbery aside, I don't think there's anything wrong with the Bushmaster. I think that most rifles will work for most people most of the time, and if there is a difference at all between brands, you have to drive them pretty hard to expose it.

Let's simplify this.

If you had a choice between getting a Bushmaster XM15 E2S or a Rock River Elite Operator which would you choose and why?

Except it was just a Bushy lower. While the lower is the gun for legal purposes, the upper is the gun for practical purposes. He stated that the Upper was RGuns. We don't know details, though.

RGuns assembles decent stuff. The FDE anodized upper we got for my wife's rifle cost $480, had an M16 BCG and a 1:9 CL barrel.

Now, would I take the RRA over the Rguns/Bushy build? Most likely, but I don't think the value difference is more than $100 or so.

Honestly, one of the nicest budget builds I've done so far was helping a friend get his together. He had bought a DTI lower for $120, scored a PSA ACS-L lower build kit for $150 on sale, and I had ordered an upper & BCG from DSA before the panic that I ended up not needing. It just recently came in, and for $415, we got him into an M16 BCG with the DSA fluted CMV middy upper. After tax and shipping, we had him set up for $740.

The day after Obama was reelected I took the pickup, went to my local gunshop with a few thousand dollars in my pocket and purchase as much ammo as I could get with it. Should have seen the looks on people faces, love to see the looks on them now... :neener:

I have a RRA TacOp2 (I didn't come up with the name, I just shoot the darn thing). I've never had a failure even when going three thousand rounds between cleaning. My barrel still shoots sub MOA with bulk M193.

I have a buddy who has a Bushmaster Varminter. It came with a large burr in the barrel at the gas port, eventually somehow sheared the buffer retaining pin off, and the grip developed a fair amount of wiggle.

Granted these aren't exact examples of what you're asking, but it's the experience I've had with these two brands.

You did just fine. The RRA is probably more accurate (guess using past experiences), worth more and will retain value better. Elite Operators go for $950 around here where a frankengun goes for $700 or less.

Not this Frankengun!

I can tell you this as a two time RRA owner. You absolutely got a better trigger if yours is the two stage match that they offer and I believe the Elite Operator has this trigger.

Sub MOA with M193? Um, not likely. You might get a few 3 round groups under an inch but that is hardly considered the standard of sub MOA.

I have a safe full of some real nice wood and blue steel varmint rifles in numerous calibers, but a year or so ago I picked up a RRA "Coyote". 20" free floated barrel. I put a nice Leupold Mark AR scope on it and it shoots better than any other rifle in my safe.

Frankly I was astounded, because I didn't even work up any super-duper hand loads. It was just my standard 60 grain Sierra FBHP loads and I was shooting quarter-sized groups at 100 yards the second I got the scope mounted and on the paper at 100 yards.

I'm a happy RRA owner, believe me. Even their "National Match" trigger is darn near as good as the expensive Geissele triggers I've got in other ARs. Just my two cents.
