I voted "no" for two reasons:

1) I think those threads are pretty gay.

2) ANY gun can be made to look awesome with the right lighting and photography technique. (How many times have you seen a guy post a pic of a Glock and then have 20+ butt kissers post about how beautiful and sweet his gun was?)

JMHO

Voted yes.

Just tools, certainly. But to me, they're tools which easily hold as high a level of aesthetic beauty as the architecture of a building or the machined parts of a sports car. With the right photography skills, I've seen some pictures from those type of threads that I wouldn't mind framing and hanging on my wall.

On a more practical level, looking at well-lit closeup shots also helps me get aqainted with the details of a firearm I may not be able to examine or shoot.

First, I enjoy photography- I wouldn't call it a hobby of mine, but I'm not content to just take pictures of things. I've gotta find the perfect angle, the sunset behind the 5-inch gun turret, so forth and so on. So I certainly appreciate a well-assembled photo.

Second, I like guns (why else would I be here?). Shooting them, reading about them, disassembling them to see how they work (the engineer in me), fondling them at the gun shop, drooling over the ones I can't afford at the shop, and looking at pictures of them.

Third, anything with the word "porn" involved is bound to get my attention. :neener:

Nope...might as well look at pictures of different types of screwdrivers.
Bwahahahahaha! :D

I generally don't look at 'em - it just doesn't do it for me. Between the low-res pictures that don't show much, to the fact that most of 'em frankly show me the equivilent of a screwdriver (to steal a line) - they just aren't worth the bandwidth. The exception is the 'ID this firearm' threads, or MilSurp pics.

I also have to contend with folks looking over my shoulder at work while I'm online. Reading the forum is pretty innocuous, but gigantic pics of rifles and pistols on my screen are a dead giveaway that I'm playing too much.

Aw that's just semantics. I know what they mean and don't not look just cause someone speaks differently. I voted yes but realistically its sometimes.

I look for fun sometimes. See how some have trashed their weapons, how some have improved theirs.

At work, occasionally. At home with 56K and an old PII 266, no.

Gun "porn" is a stupid title. I am sure it sounded cute the first time it was used. Not funny anymore.

That's akin to saying a car is only a means of transportation....

I definitely enjoy different pictures of other people's firearms. Mainly, because I enjoy seeing them, and to see what modifications have been done.

In the end, I use them as a reference. As in whether to get the specified gun, or what to do with it. Or, jus' cuz I like looking at em'. :)

I like looking at car pictures too, but they're just tools too. They get you from point A to point B :p
