Do you prefer light or heavy bullets in your chosen caliber?

I'm a firm believer in penetration. Bullets with more sectional density penetrate better. In any given caliber the heaviest bullets have the best sectional density.

In 9x19 I use 147 grainers for defense purposes and in .38 Special its 158 grains.

I also like heavier and slower bullets. In .45 the 230gr is the chosen one; in 9mm I'm having a hard time finding a 147gr. that expands from my CS9 (Speer's GD looks promising).

As far as I'm concerned, as long as the bullet reliably penetrates between 12-16" from the gun its fired from, then weight and velocity are of little importance.
