Does the NRA want new members?

At some point i could not tell the difference from the homeless guy down the street with the cardboard sign and the NRA

The difference is the homeless guy can do nothing to protect your rights, while the NRA does a rather good job of it.

I signed up with them directly (on their website) 2 months ago, using a credit card. Thought it was time to put my $$ where my mouth is, given the political atmosphere these days.

My credit card payment was processed immediately, but I haven't heard a damned thing from them since. This is inexcusable, and can't be blamed on staffing, IMO. No reason they can't send the membership info immediately upon processing of the payment. None.

So far, I am very disappointed in the NRA.

If you sign up for a magazine subscription, you'll wait a couple of months for it to kick in.

I'm not overly concerned with how long it takes my card gets to me as long as the money I'm giving to the NRA gets put to use protecting our interests.

Ski, Call 1-800-NRA-3888 and explain your situation. It should not and normally does not take this long but sometimes mistakes happen.

Sometimes I think 50% half of the internet is taken up with people complaining about something.

Perhaps my estimate was low...

Really i know they are doing their best and are the only ones doing it. same time i know they have huge problems in the way they handle their money. Prove me wrong. My case look at all the replies on here on the way they take money then you have guess on when you can recieve anything. NO ONE should have to call a number up to follow through on a membership. If you take my money and fill out a form saying i am going to get this. Then you are obligated to follow through. I should not have to call anyone if you are doing your job corrretly.

Same time as for the homeless guy down the street come election time i bet i can fill up a van load of them take them to the poles tell them what to vote on. Pay them $5.00 each and get more results then sending out give me money flyers.

Can you imagine if everyone picked up van loads of homeless people during election times. You could make the difference on which way the poles go for a few dollars. a lot less than what the candidates spend on election campaigns.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think once you got out of jail for election tampering whatever vote you were trying to sway would be long over....

You are correct though that you shouldn't have to call to make sure your membership is processed correctly. And for the most part you don't have to. What your seeing here is the folks that have had problems sounding off while the members that have had it all run as it is intended sit and watch. I would guess that of the over 400 viewers of this thread a majority are NRA members yet only those that have had problems and a few others take the time to post.

I went to the signup link USMC-R's sig:

1 Year Membership $25.00 (Regularly $35)
2 Year Membership $60.00
3 Year Membership $85.00
5 Year Membership $125.00

You save $10/year if you join for one or five years. But you only save $5/year if you join for two and $6.66/year if you join for three.

Interesting.

Yeah, I'm not sure why it's set up that way. I guess it's really just trying to get folks that have never joined to make the move.

Another thing to consider is that memberships costs could increase and getting a two or three year membership could end up saving money in the long run.

Long ago I decided I was in it for life anyway so I just bit the bullet and got a life membership. That was back long before they offered it on a payment plan so it took some saving....

However after months and months and years and years of asking me for money i had enough. If all i was going to do was spend money for my sticker that says nra and a magazine that i hardly read, then they could save on the printing and mailing me useless things and go after someone naieve and younger thats going to send them money.

This is the post pathetic and stupid reason not to join the NRA and I am tired of hearing it. If you don't like the mailings, throw them away. They wouldn't send them if they lost money on it. Also, as has been posted on this thread AND COUNTLESS OTHERS you can get your name on the list to stop/reduce the amount of mailings you get.

I hope everyone on THR is a member of at least one national pro-gun organization like JPFO, GOA, etc. If you are not a member of AT LEAST one then YOU personally are part of the reason we have anti-gun laws. Can you imagine the power the NRA would have if every gun owner was a member . . . if every THR was a member?

If this offends . . . too bad. I ain't apologizing. It's how I see it.

this is going to sound silly..... but I've been forbidden from joining the JPFO.

...

I'll probably still join, just using a postal money order.

That's actually what I was just about to suggest. Postal Money Orders are pretty anonymous, as you pay for them with cash.

I have to admitt, I don't agree with everything the NRA does. BUT, if every gun owner in the US of A was a NRA member, we wouldn't have to be putting up with stupid gun laws. That's the bottom line. The demorats are afraid of the numbers the NRA membership has and this seems to be about the only thing they are afraid of.

So what's everyone waiting for? I cant get every gun owner to sign up by myself! Don't take no for an answer, don't take "OK, I'll do it when I get home", don't take "one member won't make a difference". EVERY member makes a difference! If one member of THR were to hand me a dollar I wouldn't be able to by a matchbox car, but if every member handed me a dollar I could buy a new truck! Get every gun owner you know to join and join NOW! If every THR member were to get a friend to join the NRA and each of them got a friend to join and each of them were to get a friend to join.... See where I'm going with this? OK, some THR members may not get someone, so others of us need to get more than one! Get busy folks, make a promise to yourself to protect your rights by getting every gun owner in the USA to be a NRA member! NOW is the time for all good gun owners to come to the defense of thier rights!

I did mine online at NRA.org and got my membership number emailed 1.5 weeks later. I got the membership packet via snail mail 3.5 weeks later. No complaints here.

Patience, boys, patience. I would hope that with liberals in power and HR1022 sitting in Congress, the NRA membership folks might be a little busy.

If you signed up and haven't heard anything from them after a couple of months, here's a link to e-mail them to check on the status of your app.

speak of the devil (well, not really - you know what I mean)

I posted my response to this thread last night and today my NRA stuff came in.

What are the odds of something like that? Maybe it's Vegas time.

I know this is probably worthless, but it's worth trying:

I've wanted a 100 billion dollars be delivered directly to my door for a long time. It's just never come. I don't know if it's because heaven doesn't want me to have 100 billion dollars, or because they forgot about me (no grudges of course), but it would sure be nice if 100 billion dollars would at some point show up in front of my door.

The ten dollar "Associate Membership" is a great way to get new members on a budget! And your right, if we all got our spouses these memberships we could make a major impact on membership numbers!

Pesonally I spend the extra fifteen bucks to get my wife a full membership just so I can get both the American Rifleman and American Hunter magazines. But you have brought up a great point.

I challenge every member that reads this to sign up thier spouse, girlfiend/boyfriend, kid, buddy, or other significant person in your life today!

I'll start it off by upgrading my wife to a life membership using the EPL plan. I've been thinking about it a while but now seems the perfect time since I'm all fired up! Who's with me?!

Bless your heart, USMC-Retired! And thanks for your service.

BHK:

My wife just signed up for ten dollars (no magazines). Think how membership totals would jump if all of our spouses joined!!!

A great suggestion.

I just bought my two kids Life MeNberships under that "Legacy" plan for your kids. I don't know if it's available for non-Life members. They implied that it was only good for one offspring, but I told them to not make me choose between them, so they signed up both. The boys got their memberships within a month and their mags within two months.

If I'm not mistaken, it usually takes quite a while for any magazine subsription to kick in, regardless of its source.

Join now. Like I say, Politicians can't read. But they can count.

USMC-Retired says you can get a $10 discount here:

Bypass the recruiters.

My suggestion after some reading here is join online and use a credit card. Joining first by mail in the '70s and continuing to do so until around '95 when I swapped to going through the Internet, I've never had a problem with either way. I also swapped from yearly memberships to five year memberships without a hitch too, via online and using CCs. It cuts some of the human element out of it.

bah I figured I wasnt buying a sticker and a Hat when I joined last week so Im not in a hurry its more about supporting the cause
nor was I bummed when I saw USMC-R's discounted link 5 minutes later

NRA

I can live with the poor management in NRA, and the fact you need to be able to guide them back on the right track when they call You. I was not a member for the last 6 month, and finally renewed my membership online to weeks ago, and then they call me yesterday to inform me that my membership was up for renewal ??

The worst thing is there habit of sharing your contact information, with everyone who has a charity course, from first day I signed up with NRA, the phone started ringing and now when I renewed my membership, it started again.

The mailbox’s takes a hit as well, NRA would save a forest, if they stop sending all the junk in the email, it would be very simple to make this an option on member level, a lot of us visit there web page anyway and don’t need the paper version.

NRA stands for a good course, but they need to organize this, more on a pro level.
