double action only GP-100's?

I'm sure that this is an old topic, so sorry in advance, but I was wondering about the slew of fixed sight, short shroud GP-100's out there now in double action only. Were they a specific run for some agency? I don't mind the bobbed hammer and double action only as long as they haven't been ridden hard. Any information from those in the know? Thanks.

Im not an expert by any means, but I beleive they are some kind of canadian police, and New york police trade ins. some if not most are .38 special only IFIRC.

Actually I hadn't heard of any being chambered in .38spl...

Anyway, they're what you'd expect from police trade-ins. Some pretty well used, some virtually new.

Mine had been shot a lot--probably always with .38s--but apparently never cleaned. Lockup, endshake & cylinder gap were all as good or better than my newest and least shot GP100.

"...some kind of Canadian police.." Nope. Canadian cops switched to semi's long ago. The .38 revolvers they had were Smith M10's or Colts.
Ruger does make a 4", fixed sight, .38 Spec +P GP-100. They make a fixed sight, 2.25", SP101 in .357 with a bobbed hammer and one without the bobbed hammer for .38 Spl +P in 2.25" and 3 1/16" barrel. No DAO's though.
