Looking for a little help here since the search failed me. Been wanting to put a rail on my LR-308 AP4 for a while now and I know I will have to remove the front sight post and replace it with a gas block. I was thinking about getting a longer rail and covers the gas block which I THINK would mean I would need a low profile gas block.

And on top of that I want it to match up perfectly with the existing DPMS upper but I do not really like the DPMS rails I have seen. I would go with them if I have to but would rather go with a Daniel Defense or Troy but that's only because I am a little biased.

If the new rail goes beyond the rear of the FSP it will need to be replaced with a low profile. Some AR15 rails have an opening at the top front to allow for a front sight post to protrude up but i've never seen one in .308.

The other option you have is to chop off the front sight post, and bayonet lug if it has one, with a hacksaw or dremel and just mount the rail over it. In addition to being cheaper it will also be more secure than gas blocks held in place with screws.

The Troy TRX 308 comes in DPMS receiver height and comes in all different lengths. It is a modular tube that you can put rails on when and where you want them. I think they also have a quad rail version called the MRF if you want full length cheese graters.

Thanks guys. I was planning to remove the FSP but I might experiment with cutting it down instead since you cant really see it inside the rail.

I didnt really like the look of the Troy with the round openings on the side if I was going to cut down the FSP but since it is about half the price of the Daniel I just might go that route. Didnt know about the adjustable rails, I like that.
