DS STG58 vs SA58

I couldn't really find an explanation on the DSA site but I'm guessing that the STG58 is assembled with an Austrian parts kit which is what makes it cheaper than an otherwise equivalent SA58 which is presumably put together with all new parts?

Is there any particular downside to the STG58? The price is certainly nice.

You pretty much got it. It's cheaper since it's made with the parts kit.

I've fired both but I bought the SA58 simply because the configuration I wanted wasn't offered in the STG. When I shot them I honestly couldn't tell the difference.

I wouldn't think twice about getting the STG if it was built like you wanted it.

the STG58 are the Austrian suplus parts assembled on a new receiver

the SA58 are all new domestically manufactured parts, which gives them the latitude to offer whichever options you'd like

My STG58 Standard 21" appeared brand new when I got it. Nothing about it screamed "parts kit". I've seen guns that have been cobbled together from leftover parts or "surplus kits" and the STG58 is nothing like these.

DSArms makes top quality products and my STG58 has been a joy to own. I just wish .308 ammo were cheaper :)

Anybody order one of the FALs that AIM had up on their web site over the weekend? STG58 Para for $1550.... dunno if it was a good deal or not. The STGs seem to be on the lower end but it did have the folding para stock.

"Back in the day" (circa 2001), the STG58s were just as nice as the SA58s, they were just limited to the STG configuration. I have no idea if that is still true, but I'd be surprised if DSA would let anything ratty out the door. The only downside to the STG is that you're limited to the STG configuration. Since I wanted something similar to the STG, I just went with that. I have not been disappointed.

Just to ask a silly question.... They already have folding stock, flash hider, pistol grip. Dunno about bayo lug on the FAL but is there some other evil feature that I have missed?

I guess if you wanted to replace the folding stock it would have to be with another that is made in USA? The Belgian type handguards DSA sells are made here so that wouldn't be a problem right?

Don't forget an Extreme Duty scope mount. I've got one on my STG58. Mine's got an 18" barrel as well.

I could get a quad-rail for it, but what's the point? I didn't buy it to hang things from.

    +1 on the Extreme Duty scope mount. It's a must-have if you're
    gonna put glass on it.

Already plan on picking up one of the extreme duty mounts.... trying to figure out if I need to get the PARA version or if the regular one will work? Thinking of mounting a Hensoldt scope on the thing. Anybody know how to attach a Hensoldt to a rail?

Well I was going to buy four of these and mount them on the quad rail for maximum evilness :D
