Duplicating 5.56 loads with Accurate 2230

Out of my 16" barrel, I'll take all the velocity I can get. I'd like to be over 3000 fps.

This is powder that I bought 5 years ago and have barely tapped into it. I predicted there might be a powder shortage in the future, lol.

I also have 8 lbs of 8208 and 4895 on hand, those are still pretty hard to find too.

I load 24.5 grains of AA2230 with 55 gran bullets. In my 16" M4gery, I get 2960-3000 fps.

In all of my AR-15s except a Colt Match Target with a 5.56 NATO chamber, I begin to see loose primer pocket after four to six rounds with 24.5 grains of AA2230. Some of these rifles have Wylde chambers.

Routinely, the Colt gives velocities 100-200 fps less than other rifles with 20" barrels and the same ammunition.

Interestingly, the M4gery gets 3100 fps with Federal XM193 ammunition.

Hope this helps.
