Thank you all for the help with the "sludge" in my new AK.
Another question; My furniture came without a finish, sort of. It is a Romanian WASR 10 and the top of the bottom handle, and the bottom of the "piston" piece, has a finish on the edges. It's almost as if they had been finished in the past, and were sanded off when they were placed on my rifle. It came with the Dragunov stock on it and the "military" style stock in the box. Both had been sanded prior to my purchase of it, and neither of these have any finish, unlike the front pieces. Will there be any Cosmoline in my wood without the finish, or is there any way to tell if there is any on it at all?
What brand of ammo (7.62 X 39) is best for general "plinking" and target practice. Not going to be shooting much for now, however in the fall, hopefully it will be on a regular basis. This is a new, supposedly "never been fired" rifle, according to the dealer. What is best to break it in with?
Thank you all again for the help! THR is extremely educational.
