First .22 LR auto -- Thoughts? Ruger or Buckmark?

What's the forum favorite?

Ruger Mk series
Ruger 22/45
Browning Buck Mark

I'm open to other suggestions but the ability to put on a threaded bbl is a must. If I can't put a can on it I don't want it.

Ruger sells a few factory threaded. Not sure what the aftermarket is like...
 
I have a MKIII Hunter and love it. Minus field stripping. It's the most accurate .22 auto I have, very reliable. I've never **** a buckmark pistol, but I do have a buckmark rife that is also very accurate and reliable. I think its a toss up. If you like tinkering, aftermarket for Rugers is huge. There's not much much can't do to them.
 
I have a Ruger MkII I bought 20+ years ago and love it. I've shot newer ones (MkIIIs and 22/45s) and they don't seem the same. I've also shot a couple of Buckmarks. If I were to do it again today I'd go with a Buckmark.
 
My Ruger Stainless Steel Mark III is the most accurate handgun I've ever owned. Wouldn't trade it for nothing.

Buckmarks are very good too. A sheriff friend has one and he is a phenomenal shooter with it. I feel I'm good but he can blow me away.
 
Nothing wrong with the Rugers but I definately prefer the Buck Mark. I feel like there aren't as many after market parts because they don't need them. There are a few simple mods you can do, as described on rimfirecentral, that will turn any good BM into a great BM. I've shot mine right next to my FIL's S&W 41 and it will hold it's own any day.
 
Ford vs Chevy. Most are going to be loyal to the one they chose. Those that have both are the ones you really want info from.

It might just come down to what feels better in your hand.

Ruger has better aftermarket.

I went with the Ruger 22/45 and have no regrets. Some minor modifications to make it a bit better for my uses.
 
I am a diehard Ruger fan, but honestly, it's not like you can really go wrong with any of those choices. What you like best in hand is obviously a key piece of the puzzle, but from an accuracy or reliability standpoint, you are going to be just fine.
 
My MK3 has been completely reliable through many, many thousands of rounds. Great guns, maybe the best .22lr automatic pistol out there.

The Buckmark is also great.

Neither will probably ever give you any trouble and will outlive you by several generations.
 
I own a Buckmark pistol but I have never run across a Ruger .22 that didn't compare. I would have to agree with many here that it is a toss-up. Buy the one that fits your hand and your wallet.
 
I have four Ruger MK II's, one is a MK II era 22/45. I like them stock, but I also like the ability to modify them with the plethora of parts from VQ, Clark, etc. You can make the triggers really excellent with a part or two. I like the grip angle of the MK II, better than the 22/45, although I shoot them both about the same.

Takedown, and re-assembly is easy if you use the manual.
 
I bought my Dad a 22/45 about 10 years ago, and it has been flawless. I went with a Buckmark last year. I like it just a bit better than the 22/45 but would be happy with either. The Buckmark had a threaded barrel model called the Whisper, I am not sure if it is still in production. Ruger has several factory choices with threaded barrels. Tac-Sol has many, many options if you buy a used one and need to add a threaded barrel.
 
buckmark = better trigger out of the box

ruger = more aftermarket parts and better grips and trigger from VQ.
 
As an alternative, the Beretta U22 NEOS. My personal favorite, although threaded barrels are a bit harder to find.

Personally, I love the NEOS more than any Ruger or Browning I've had the privilege to shoot. It just fits my hand and does what I want it to do.
 
I have both and I seem to shoot the Buckmark more. It seems at least for the guns I have I have less malfunctions with the Buckmark and when I do they are easier to clear. Also most everything that needs cleaning on the Buckmark can be done without disassembling the gun

I like them both but next time around I think I might go with buckmark. The rugers are sort of a pain to field strip (not that you would have to do it that often) and the buckmark has a bit of a better trigger out of the box plus you can clean what needs cleaning quickly and easily.

I had this same debate a couple of years ago and ended up with the Ruger. I wouldn't mind another Ruger either really now that I think about it.
 
Any advice on which Buckmark to get? So many choices.... and nobody in Indianapolis has them in stock.

Micro ( 4" bbl) - Short and not threaded? No way!
7.25 bbl - I can cut this down but why bother when 5.5" is plenty of room to thread.
 
I have a MK II Ruger that I like A LOT.

Oldest brother has a Ruger {don't know if it is a MK I or the "Standard model"} that uses 9-round magazines he bought in 1967 or so...still puts the lead where you aim, and goes "Bang!" on request everytime.
 
Sorry if I singe any feathers, but I think the guns mentioned are so ugly that I can't bring myself to buy one. My choice is a Browning 1911-22.
 
I have always loved the Rugers. I just bought a slabside competition off of a local guy yesterday.i have owned 4 of the MkII's total. I wanted another SS for my wife to shoot. I have always heard great things about the Buckmark. I don't think either is a bad choice. So you know what that means.... Buy them both..lol. Nah, but seriously I think you would like either.
