FOID card question for all.

Moderators: This is a general firearms related subject, so I'm not sure where it belongs. So I put it here.

Here in Illinois we subjects are forced to register ourselfs as gunowners with the State Police. We have to get a FOID card. (Firearms Owners IDendtification card) To do that we have to fill out an application almost identicle to the 4473 form, have our mug shots taken, and pay a fee.
For this all we can do is possess guns and ammo. We can't carry, concealed or open, unless actually on a range, our own property, or hunting.

My wife is getting close to settling an industrial comp case. When she does we will be escaping from The Peoples Republic of IL.

Once out of here I was wondering what to do with the FOID card.
I was thinking of sending it back to Governor Blagoyatwitch and tell him to stick it (sharp edge first) where the sun don't shine, but then I wondered if maybe I shouldn't keep it for a souvenier.

Any body else got any creative suggestions what I could do with this card?

In fairness to Blagojevich, he was probably in Jr. High when the FOID card was thrust on the citizens of Illinois. Don't worry though..I'm sure if he had his way, you wouldn't be allowed to own a firearm, even if you had a FOID.

In the PRK you used to have a BFSC (Basic Firearms Safety Certificate). It entailed a $20 fee, a written test and I think a thumb print but I'm not sure about the print now it has been so long. Now it's worse in the PRK. It's Al Gore's dream. Kind of like the FOID card. They have a HSC (Handgun Safety Certificate). I keep my BFSC card to remind me how painless it is here to buy a gun. All I need is my drivers license now. No stinking tests, no prints, no hassle.

If you let the Democrats control the Governorship and Legislature they will try everything they can to limit your rights and take your money. Happened in the now virtually bankrupt PRK and now you have it in Illinois. Really too bad Blago got elected. I saw one of the debates he had with Ryan and he was pretty sorry. When you have those huge metro areas like Chicago or in the case of the PRK, LA and SF, this seems to be the trend. Elect whoever is promising the biggest handout. Just makes me want to

Russ - you wouldn't believe what a disaster this city is. It seems like we're the murder capitol of the nation every other year - certainly worse than New York. And they just re-elected little daley (mayor for life) to a fifth (I think) term - they actually think he's doing a good job. People don't even realize how dangerous the city is - they're living in La La Land.

Mr. Miller - good for you for getting up and getting out. I'd love to, but I'm effectively tied to the area. As for your foid card, just keep it to yourself, as the other guys said, to remind yourself what freedom is.

I tore up my People's Republic of California permission to purchase firearms card the day after I arrived back in the United States. In its place, I now carry a Colorado permit to carry concealed hand guns—and a .357 magnum, too.

I hate to see pro-gun voters leaving the state but best of luck to you.
Leaving is not an option for me now or in the foreseeable future. I have family including a widowed mother, kids, grandkids. I have a business, home, and small farm. My roots are deep.

I've spent a lot of time on the phone this week fighting my own FOID card battles. My app is one of 15,000 caught up in a buraucratic backlog. Evidently I'm making a nuisance of myself. I got a phone message today from an ISP captain offering personal assistance.
What I can't seem to make anybody in Springfield understand is:
The FOID system does not work!

Yeah, I'm POed. Not because my FOID card is expired and I'm waiting for a new one- but because I have to "apply" for a fundamental right in the first place!

Well I kept mine. I don't know if you have any friends or relatives in IL, but if you ever return to visit and want to go shooting you'll need it to buy ammo. Granted it will only be good for a couple more years, but it's something to consider.

six, I don't think that is correct. A non-res can buy ammo in IL with an out of state drivers license. A non-res does not need a FOID to hunt or shoot in IL.
I am a law-abiding resident of IL and I cannot buy a box of shells or posses a firearm legally because my FOID expires 03-01-03.
Does that make any sense to anyone????

I remember as a kid walking into Marshall Field's store for men, on Washington and State streets, in the Loop. There, I stood and looked at my favorite guns: a Colt GM in .38 Super, with the deepest, richest blue I have ever seen, and an M70 Winchester, in .458 Winchester Magnum. The clerk actually let me handle a cartridge!

I had a Chicago cop (organized crime type) call me at work one day and accuse me of being a "gun runner" because a gun I had privately sold about ten years earlier had ended up in a gangbanger's hand (he used it to kill another gangbanger). He told me that I needed to tell him who I sold the gun to and give him their address. When I told him I hadn't the slightest memory of who I sold the gun to he told me that I either send him a list of possible names or I would be visited by my local police. I told him I'd sleep on it.

A quick call to my local police and the Seattle office of the BATF (don't agree with BATF but at least they helped me here), and I called the Chicago cop back and explained to him that in the great state of Washington that I'm not required to maintain records of private transactions, that my local police and the BATF told me to tell him to do his own investigation work, and that my local police would also like to speak with him for using them as a threat against me! I also threw in one of my own: the Chicago PD ought to be giving me an award for eliminating a portion of their gang problem (albeit accidentally)!

The point is: thank God I live in WA state where I don't need to have my "papers" with me at all times (yet) and I don't need government permission to exercise my God-given rights.

Illinois is a very odd state. The capital of Illinois is not Springfield. It is of course, Chicago. Dailey is the absolute king of Illinois, easily the most powerful man in the state. He is a populist, and he preys on the fears of the downbeaten populace of Chicago to stay in office. He will be mayor for as long as he wants to be.

Our past recent govenors, with the exception of Edgar, have been children of the Chicago political machine. Thompson, even though a so called Republican, spent far more time in his office in Chicago, the State building, have you seen it? A magnificent structure and indicitive that the political center of Illinois is on Lake Michigan.

Outside of the Cook county metro area, Illinois is a pleasant Iowa like abode. We have a few small industrial cities, like Rockford and Peoria, but most of the cities downstate are small, white collar, conservative, and quiet. Farms fill in the spaces. Southern Illinois is a beautiful forrested hunting and fishing paradise.

But us downstater's state laws are the same as Chicago's. Firearms laws in Illinois are strict. It is a lost cause to try to change them. So, after living here for 50 years, I will retire somewhere else.

Come to live in Florida Great weather, and gun friendly Whats not to like? Coming from NY and NE. myself I can say I dont miss the Taxes,gun laws, or other assorted crap. I make less money here, BUT it doesnt cost me anywhere near what it did to live up there. Propert tax alone evens out the income difference. Right to carry, Nics check and out the door with you're guns. Guns are priced pretty good here too. Lots less than up north. Oh and when they get buried in snow you can call and kick you're feet in you're pool Thats priceless let me tell you

Florida is too hot and humid for me. I'd move straight across the Indiana border were it up to me, but Missy wants to go somewhere warmer if we're going to the trouble of moving. Tennessee, North Carolina and Texas (high desert part) are on the short list. I want to go somewhere that will allow me to buy some land and live my own way.

BTW, the story about Thompson spending all his time in Chicago is true, but how about Blagojevich? Apparently, he's going to live in Chicago and not even make a show of living in the Governor's mansion in Springfield. Says his wife would get mad if he asked her to move. I find it hard to believe that Dick Mell's daughter would be so hard to convince of the need to bow to the exigencies of chasing absolute power. She was raised on this stuff.

My fondest dream would be for the Machine to grow more powerful and get to the point where they actually attempt to move the capital to Chicago. That might be enough to cause an actual schism, and things could change. Short of that, I simply don't think it will.

Much as I hate to say it, the bottom line is that gun owners in this state were defeated and bent over before I started elementary school.

Where to begin ...

The Democratic stranglehold on Illinois won't be touched until one of the Polish suasages Daley has consumed causes the big grabber for him. He is part of a dynasty that is ending with him. None of his kids or brothers is even remotely visible for political life on a local level.

Then the Democratic party in Chicago and Illinois will begin to devour itself. That will be fun to watch because they have no shared values, just competitive interests in controlling power and the lucrative no-bid Chicago contracts for tens of millions in "free" money ... ours.

The Black Chicago majority that Daley has kept well fed and paid off will want to take over (remember the "Council Wars" when Harold Washington got elected). Look for Jesse Jackson hand picked candidate to quickly emerge, maybe his son to give up his House seat to runt he city? It won't go smoothly though because there is now an equally large Latino faction that wants it's share of power too, Luis Guitierrez take a bow!

They will create an opportunity for the Republicans to field a real conservative candidate ... if they have the guts to give Illinois outside of Chicago a genuine choice. Then, just possibly, there will be balance in the state again and we can return to the light.

In the meantime, when the time comes, I am arranging to have my two AR's and my evil Marlin Model 60 semi auto, .22 assault plinker, stored at my Sisters house, out of state. (Did you hear that Governor and Mayor!)

But Daley's ego knows no state boundaries. Once he has handguns (they're next after assault rifles) banned through out Illinois, he will go after Wisconsin, Indiana and Iowa, as the source of all the gang members guns.

Just my opinion.

Your Chicago / Daley senario was quite entertaining and most probable. But I hope to be far gone from this state when it happens. I'll watch from afar.

What I haven't said on this forum is that I am an Illinois native. Yep born here in Springfield.
My parents left when I was quite young and headed West. I lived in the open (more or less) west for 40 some years before moving here. Before anybody asks, I moved here because of family, and they have since died. Very rude of them.

Since Blagojavich (I never can spell his name right) has decided to move the IL capital to Chicago I suspect that the down staters are going to revolt next election. I believe they thought he would be better than another lying Ryan. But they actually swallowed his lies hook line and sinker. Oh, this is a gun forum, ment to say, Lock Stock and barrel.
I'm hoping, (not gonna hold my breath though) that the voters of this state will be so P.O.'ed in four years that they toss the whole lot in the lake.

So far there has only been one gun bought here that is on record. It was sold to pay bills. (I didn't like it anyway.) So if Daleys goons want to call me and ask about it, I have paperwork to prove where it went. But not untill I give them as much crap as I can get away with.
And if they should call me once I'm out of state, I'll tell them which lake they can take a long walk into.

I think the posters that suggested I keep the FOID card as a reminder, and to show people what can happen is a good idea.

We have been discussing the FOID card and other gun issues in this thread. Well I got an on line news letter from the ISRA today with a report that makes the FOID card look like sheer freedom.
Schild posted it in the Legal and Political forum, but I think it should have been posted here for more people to see it.
