For The Mother's Honor?...

Back in the olden days...(found out I'm an old timer today) Children used to be taught to not let kids slur their mama. "Don't talk about my mama or I'll give you a fat lip..." (Or your sister either is the way I was taught.) Well, I wondered if kids are still taught this way.

By the time I had kids old enough to teach this too they had already come out with 'violence is never the answer' and yet, I still felt compelled to teach my kids this value. So I taught them that, as far as school kids and the dozens go, that when someone slurred your mother, this was THE ONLY time that striking the first blow on a kid was acceptable behavior.

A couple three four years ago my younger son did start a fight at school for this reason. He was suspended and I got the call to go pick him up. He told them why he hit the kid and when I got there I told them that I taught my child that. They un-suspended him on the spot. I guess they had heard of this concept before. The other kid admitted the slur too so I'm sure that helped.

To keep it gun related, I'll say that I think it would be insane to draw down on someone for slurring you mother. A fat lip or black eye may be in order, a gun response would not. They are indeed, only words.

How have your children been instructed in this area, or have they?

I was Taught the Same way by both my parents but when I kicked a kid for insulting my mother and my sister He went screaming home to his mom, who called the local PD, and I nearly ended up spending a week behind bars (typical callifornia crap).

Why did I nearly get Arrested? minor technicallity of the brat being 2 years younger than me....

In 4th grade I did $2K worth of damage to another kids braces for several obscenities about my Mom.

His Mom called my Mom. I told both Mom's what was said. His Mom politely said, "Sorry for disturbing you," and hung up.

No one else ever talked about my Mom.
