these 2 companies seem to be the only ones using more pure resins... i've heard good things online about both but was wondering if anyone has any actual experience other than spraying a passive person for certification/'fun'. i've seen what they can do to teenagers on youtube, but im looking for real world example of application in a combat/LEO type situation.

fox seems to have a good reputation online but i cant find anyone recommending it for reasons other than 'someone said it was good'... their website is unprofessional and lacks any real information about the product (no msds etc). i called them and the person i spoke to gave me the runaround when i asked about quality control & testing, he also seemed confused when i asked him about CRC content. he said fox was 30% CRC but i've read online its really only .7 and has tested as low as .3. their claim to fame seems to be the SHU of their sprays, but in reality SHU is a subjective number and not really an accurate measurement of stopping power.

vexor on the other hand is very professional but they only talk about the pre-dilution strength of their civilian products & wont tell what the ONH is.

I can tell you from personal experience that Fox is some HOT stuff. I was pretty messed up for about 45 minutes. I've tried PunchII, SabreRed and First Defense and a coupla others and Fox put a hurtin' on me. I haven't heard of Vexor, but I'm sure I'll run across some one of these days and get a chance to try it. :D

I've seen the Foxlabs drop a violent 6'6" 350 pound guy who used Aerko's Freeze +P for toothpaste. Well, he didn't really use it for toothpaste but he'd been sprayed with Freeze so many times he was used to it. The Freeze had little effect and he was easily able to fight through it. But when we hit him with the Foxlabs he didn't know whether to **** or go blind, he went down like a ton of bricks.

He was later quoted as saying, "I ain't messing with that spray no more, that **** ain't no joke, next time Tase me so it don't hurt so bad."

A hit in the face with a fresh can of Fox Labs is like bobbing for french fries. can't speak on the other brand mentioned. My experience with Fox is its impressive, not magic, but works very well most of the time. I won't carry a can more than a year or so. they all lose some fire with time.

I can also vouch for Fox labs OC - holy mother of God does that stuff burn. I was in a course recently and as part of the training the students (us) were lined up and given about 1/8th of second shot in the face. I had the standard reaction; it took about 5 seconds to fully activate and I was nearly 100% incapacity for at least 15 minutes, and then I could barely function and was in pain for hours afterward. For the first 15 minutes I physically could not open my eyes and when I tried to force my eyes open manually I could not focus. It gradually got better, but that was a controlled environment. I'm thinking that if you blasted someone that was attacking you then that would be the end of it. They would shortly thereafter be writhing in pain. And rubbing or pouring water on it just activates the oils and makes it worse!

I have since then purchased the OC as an additional self defense option.

having now played with both fox stream and vexor inert units, here is my take...

the fox is by far superior.

the 1oz vexor inert unit gave only 3 good blasts and 2 puffs... being that its 1/4oz larger than the live unit my guess is the vexor is at most good for 2-3 blasts.

the vexor atomizes visually significantly more than the fox and the particles stay in the air much longer. the fox has little atomization & the particles are much heavier and quickly fall to the ground.

the vexor shoots with more force but the fox has significantly more volume to the stream.

the trigger mechanism on the vexor is very awkward. i couldnt get it to fire using my pointer finger like i would on a gun trigger... i had to dig the tip of my finger onto the trigger mechanism which made my aim unstable and less accurate. it also doesnt completely re-engage afterwards so you must make sure its back into the locked position to prevent accidental discharge.

the only positive about the vexor unit is that it is stable up to 150F... the fox is only good up to 120F. i live in northern CA so bringing the fox to the beach on a hot august day is a no-no.

most likely the only time i will be carrying my live vexor unit is when im going to the beach.

all in all the fox is easier to aim & fire in a rush and is all around superior.

I have used and recommended Fox for years then I had an experience that caused me to change brands. I had several canisters of Fox (more than a dozen) dating from late 1990s to a couple of years ago. Most had never been discharged since new. When I tried to exhaust them prior to putting them in my dumpster more than half of them had no propellant left. I mean they were still full of OC and showed no signs of leaking they just acted like they had advanced prostrate problems.

My current choice is Saber Defense Red either cone or stream.

They do Gas Chromatography analysis QC of their formulas (very precise measure of potency) and I have tested canisters that are at least five years old and they are as good a new.

Fox is hot but that only matters if the delivery device is reliable. I don't trust that part of their system anymore. The Sabre Red actually has twice the concentration of active resin.

I had a couple of evaluation units of Vexor. Aside from its cost I found the relatively linear stream to shoot very low from both units and exhaust the contents very fast.

fox recommends you buy new every 2 years... for 15 bucks i will most likely buy a new one every year.

sabre's quality control sure seems like a step above fox's but the main deciding point for me was the onset of action.

i've seen people get sprayed w/ sabre red and it generally takes them 20-30 seconds before they are really incapacitated. the fox seems to work nearly instantly.

According the the gentleman I spoke with at Fox, the reason it is so fast acting is it has a solvent in it that takes the OC into the skin oils very fast. The solvent is also the reason some departments don't use Fox. It is somewhat controversial.

I personally like the Fox formula but I am not confident in the reliability of the delivery system anymore.
