Thinking of getting a G23 9mm conversion barrel for my Gen 1-2 G23. Thinking of a Bear Creek SS conversion barrel, G19 extractor, G19 trigger housing/ejector and G19 Mags. If anyone has done anything similar what were your results? TIA

You may or may not need 9mm extractor. You may not need to use 9mm mags for range use. Some say you should still use the .40 ejector. @LiveLife has a lot of experience and knowledge here. Search his posts. Bear creek makes good stuff IME. I have a couple G22 and G23 conversion barrels and they usually work fine. I can’t get my Gen 3 Glocks to stop bouncing brass off my face no matter what I do so I don’t shoot them much anymore.

Thanks for the info and recommendations. I will check out those past posts. Reason why I am thinking of G19 extractor and ejector is to increase reliability. Searched all those previous threads and answered all the questions.

There is no need to change out the ejector. A 40/357 ejector will work fine. In fact the Gen 4 and Gen 5 9mm ejectors are very similar to the 40/357 ejectors and are an improvement over the Gen 9mm ejector. I have an G23 slides with c9mm conversion barrels and used the 40/357 ejector without any issues.

You may or may not need to change out the extractor, you won't know until you try.

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it. Will try it with the 23 ejector/trigger housing first.

I put a 9mm barrel on my g23 only changed to a g19 barrel and magazine all other parts g23 original fired just fine ejection was different pattern from my g19 but no ftf or fte.

Did the barrel fit the slide correctly? I thought G19 barrels were a smaller diameter than G23 barrels.

I had converted a G23 to 23/9 almost two decades ago, switching to 9mm mags, trigger housing with ejector, extractor & plunger and have shot tens of thousands of rounds through it, where the gun performed as reliable as the standard G19.

Glocks aren't expensive. I got tired of fiddling with them, readjusting my sights for each caliber. The cost of three mags, small parts, and a barrel is half way to a whole Glock.

Just buy a nice Glock 45 instead.

If you did put an actual G19 barrel into your G23 slide, you need to removed it ASAP!!!!!

Here s the reason why.
  1. G19 barrel hood is 0.030" smaller at the breach face
  2. G19 barrel diameter is 0.020" smaller.
Both of the above will allow the G19 barrel to move around inside a G23 slide. Not only will it be inaccurate but can also cause safety issues.

I suggest reading the following thread.

https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...-my-glock-23-to-a-true-glock-19.898686/page-2

In that thread a guy was running a G26 barrel in a G27 slide, same issues as with running a G19 barrel in a G23 slide. 0.005" to 0.010" slop between barrel and slide is okay. 0.020" to 0.035" slop is way too much and is unsafe.

I have never needed to do anything more than change the barrel (conversion barrel) and magazine.

When I put in a conversion barrel it made the ejection pattern very erratic. Some cases flew off into the woods 20 feet away, some hit me in the head, some went straight up, never the same place twice. I have heard that if I switched out the extractor that would get better, but I never bothered. Like somebody else said, I'll just buy a 9mm.

I bought a G22 law-enforcement turn-in because it was dirt cheap, "everyone should have a full-sized Glock", and because the one my FiL got was so nice.

It's just a range toy.

I saw a 9mm conversion barrel (the company name is wolf something) on sale for $99 a while after I bought the pistol and thought, "Why not?"

I also bought a couple of G17 magazines.

I've had the conversion barrel for a few years now and it's been flawless.

You can shoot a box of 40's, switch out the barrel and magazine, shoot a box of 9's, and repeat as desired until you're out of ammo or your arm is too tired.

However, it is just a range toy. It's worked fine, but if it temporarily became my HD handgun, I would use it in 40 caliber just to be sure.

Been running a 40-9 barrel in gen 3 22's and 23's. Always used 40 mags and all over parts. out of 100 rounds, I would get maybe 1 or 2 failure to feeds. But for range use, its perfectly fine (for me)

I think of it as cheaper range time. I would never carry with it.
