I'm having a debate with a friend who say's Ruger sells more semi auto centerfire pistols than Glock. I'm not asking which is your favorite between the two. I'm asking which do you think is the sales leader? Just for the record I own both, a Glock 17 and a Ruger SR9 and like them both equally, but I think Glock is the sales leader over Ruger.

I don't have either number in front of me, but I would definitely have to say Glock, at least where I'm at. I see more spots for it on the shelf and pretty much every salesman at any of the LGS I've gone to have said "Glock".

World-wide, Glock without a question (assuming center-fire cartridges)......

Ruger has sold a ton of 22LR pistols though.

Depends on whether you count LEO sales or not. If you do Glock is clearly the winner. If you focus only on US Civilian sales, then I think its still Glock, but I'm not as sure and the margin of lead would definitely be a lot smaller.

I say numbers just the other day that someone posted about imported firearms into the U.S by country. Austria imported almost 600K firearms. Styer and Glock are the main importers in Austria. I don't know of any others. Styer can't hold a candle to the number of Glocks sold in the U.S. That means there could be easily 500,000 Glocks sold in the U.S in 2011. Ruger sells many long guns and center fire guns. I highly doubt half of the 1 million guns they sold last year are centerfire handguns. I'm sure that 1 million was worldwide too. The numbers I had were only for imports into this country. Glock could have 500,000 more around the world.

In a recent Glock Armorers Course the Instructor stated that Glock manufactures 70,000 pistols a month and has orders for 400,000. I don't think Ruger makes that many centerfire pistols.

I voted Glock.

Just my .02,

I'd say Glock has to move more pistols. Ruger cranks out a ton of LCPs, but factoring all the revolver demand, I just don't see how they can sell as many semiautos as a company that ONLY makes semiautos...on top of that provides a lot of their wares to various law enforcement and professionals in large lots.

According to atf.gov,Ruger manufactured over 400,000 pistols in 2009.Glock manufactured 41,000 in the same year in the U.S. I don't know how many pistols glock made in Austria that info seems to be a secret!

^^^^ well then then ruger is way behind Glock. They imported just about 500,000 in 2011 and close to 400,000 in 2010, if Styer imported 100K each year.

If ruger made over 400,000 pistols in 2009 that would be divided up between revolvers and semi autos. They sell a bunch of revolvers and some of their semi autos are .22.

There's no way Ruger sells more Semi auto centerfires than Glock.

Ruger sold a million firearms last year, they sell a ton of lcps every year. I voted Ruger.

Lots of which were shotguns, rifles, revolvers, or rimfire self loaders.

Probably right around eighty percent of them were weapons other than centerfire self loading pistols.

They imported just about 500,000 in 2011 and close to 400,000 in 2010, if Styer imported 100K each year.

There is no way Steyr is importing anywhere near a hundred thousand pistols a year. I don't know their numbers, but they don't even make the M series anymore, do they? What else do they have?

Ruger sells lots of stuff Glock does not. By limiting the discussion to "Centerfire Autoloading Pistols" we are kind of comparing apples to oranges IMO. Ruger is a general firearms manufacturer (who's flagship models have been rimfires), while Glock makes pistols... in centerfire... oh and shovels.

Glock is the issue pistol in over 65% of the Police departments in the US, they are also issued to many departments outside the US as well as many foreign military. As far as auto loading pistols are concerned Glock is the leader. Ruger would probably beat them in total firearms sold.

Its hard to believe any manufacturer sells more centerfire handguns than Glock...

That said and a little off topic. I've had the SR9c and SR9 for a while now. I use the compact for EDC and the full size for range/plates etc.......I have to admit I am fighting(and have been for some time) a strong draw to replace them with a Glock 26 and 17(or 19). The SR's are great pistols that feel awesome...but for me the Glocks(even with all the time I've spent shooting the SRs) point a little more naturally, which in turn shoot a little better for me....

Anyone with a couple of Glocks want to trade for these black SRs? ;)

Where's the friend getting his information? Is this just a theory of his? Last time I checked, over 5M Glocks had been produced. I'd bet a lot of $$ that Ruger's not even close in handgun sales.

I'll give Ruger this, though, they make much better clubs than do Glocks! ;)

I'd go the other way, by restricting the comparison to the type of firearm/product both companies make, the comparison stays relevant instead of being totally useless, like comparing the total annual sales figures of Bass vs. L.L. Bean, while trying to determine which sells more shoes.

This thread has nothing to do with general firearms sales; the question was whether Glock produces more centerfire handguns than Ruger. The answer is pretty simple.

no, the question was who sells more ,not who produces more,I live in a small city about pop18,000 and glock did a straight up trade with are PD for there S&W's , and I can't beleave we are the only city that they did this in , I would think it would be ruger as thay make more shapes and sizes to fit more folks , everyone I know with a glock also owns a ruger or two , like me ,
