Glock is the issue pistol in over 65% of the Police departments in the US
Glocks are approved by 65% of depts, huge difference as some may approve Glocks for their officers even if none or few actually carry Glocks.

I don't know how anyone could think Ruger outsells Glock in the centerfire pistol market...

I bet if you threw out all of Glocks LE sales, they'd STILL come out ahead of Ruger.

semi auto centerfire pistols

That doesn't count Ruger's rifles, revolvers or rimfires.

Ruger doesn't even come close to selling the same amount of centerfire semi-autos as Glock. Even if you take police sales out of the equation Ruger isn't close...

I would not at all be surprised if Ruger sold more handguns than Glock, in fact I am pretty sure they do.

Pretty sure Glock sells more Semi-auto centrfires though

RUGER, LCP, LCP-CT, LCP-LM, LCP-P, LCP-AZ, LCP-CF, LCP-NRA, KSR9C, BSR9C, KSR9C-10-L, BSR0C-10-L, SR9, KSR9-10-L, SR9B-10-L, SR9B, KSR40C, BSR40C, KSR40C-9L, BSR40C-9L, KSR40, BSR40, KSR40-10L, BSR40-10L, SR1911, KP345PR, P345PR, P95PR, KP95PR15, P95PR15, KP95PR, that would be 30 from ruger and I thought they had two 1911's out but I only found one on there web page , with that many to pick from I find it hard to think that glock is selling more , maybe to PD's but not to the rest of us

The number of SKU's offered has nothing to do with the number of units sold. The only real way to find the answer on this one outside of speculation is to look at actual sales figures. Everything else is really just assumptions.

While I was not able to get recent yearly numbers I did find these offical overall numbers.

total number of nice looking handguns produced by glock: 0

hard to go by sales numbers with all the give-away glocks (PD's) as I pointed out in post #25

Well I don't think there will be any argument that Glock's profit margins are higher. They have inexpensive components.

When they trade to LE department's they are not giving them away. They may be sold at a lower cost due to volume but they are not going to hand them out for free.

With over 60% of the LE market, and as of today they are 600,000 pistols behind in their orders...GLOCK...hands down.

when they traded are PD for there S&W's i'm sure they sold the S&W's , so they weren't free but close enough!!!

Are you saying the S&W's are worthless? I sold an old model 59 for $250 a few years back. It was used and had a good deal of wear.

oh god NO!!!!! I love my S&W's ! I'm just saying they didn't pay put any cash for there glocks . strait up trade

Goods and services.

Trading your product for another manufacturer's easily sold product and the future maintenance, parts, service, and training, as well as an edge in future pistol changes, is not the same as given away.

Just because the police departments may not have had to put much money down up front, doesn't mean they aren't paying for them.

While I'll concede that Ruger sells more revolvers than does Glock, I would still opine that Glock sells more handguns than Ruger.

I think this is a good question that is not easily answered. While Glock has the LEO market cornered Ruger has a far better choice for any other application. How many LEOs have a Glock on their hip and a Ruger tucked away?
