Personally, I don't think many handguns designed after 1980 look good. There are some beautiful revolvers, 1911s of course and BHPs but after that the herd thins out. XDs I find less attractive than Glocks.
The near-bulletproof finish is the biggest reason I chose a Glock for my beater pistol. If Glock would refinish my beat up Kimber, I'd use it instead...One thing for sure...the Glock 23 I carried on a week long backpack trip where it was exposed to continuous rain and hot humid (read sweaty) weather looked beautiful when I got home...where my beautiful Browning HiPower would have been an orange rusty mess. The weight of the Glock added to a 40lb pack was nice looking as well.
I do not consider pistols as just a tool. That is why I own more than one pistol and lust after many more as a handgun enthusiast. If I have the chance to choose between two guns that work just as well but one looks horrible and the other looks nice, I am gonna buy the nice one. That is why I own a Ruger LCP and not a Kel-Tec P3AT.Why on Earth a handgun should be beautiful or ugly? A pistol is just a tool. A well designed tool should be useful for the purpose it has been conceived, as well as reliable, rugged, easy to maintain, practical and so on. GLOCKS are exactly that.
