Swore off AR platforms a few years ago then for obvious reasons I see
where I should have stayed in it.
They have so many options and accessories that I went nuts with the
first 4 I had and spent LOTS on them.
Gave the last one to my son a year ago and now in the past 2 weeks I have
spent $2.5 G on this Daniel Defense and thanks to my junkyard of spare parts
I have kept I might not have to spend more than another $G on optics and
minor stuff, just hope the fever doesn't get as bad as last time.
Already got LOTS of ammo and reloading out the ears, plus another barrel coming and
I might be close to an addict again.
And as much as I have put them down on here for the modular making them
addictive, now I am off the wagon.
Anyone else picked another one up lately?

Never got off the wagon, just traded seats every ow and again. I’ll go a couple years enjoying them, then sell a couple and then build a couple again, etc. I never sell or part with spare parts, mags, ammo, components, or dies/molds unless I’m sure I won’t be getting back into that caliber.

I am (sort of) in this category. Sold my last one probably 3 or 4 years ago, but kept a lot of spare small parts and the tools. Just recently couldn't resist grabbing up a BCA upper in 7.62x39 on sale for a budget beater/truck gun build, and have most of the parts compiled. I am missing a zero on the end of the $ compared to yours though...

Been fun putting it together though, looking forward to getting it done and giving it a try on the range. It looks like you can just walk to the window and send a few rounds downrange? That must be nice.

I was late to the AR party, so they are still fun for me.
Built this spare parts .22 a few weeks ago-
My only problem is that now my buddies all know I have all the special assembly tools, so they finagle me into building all their kits for them, lol.

They've got your number!

I sort of swore them off for a while after I got out of the Army ('89), though about a year later I built an XM177E2 clone. I worked on a few here and there after that for a while, but my sons got to that age where I though they should have an AR and a .50 cal can of bandoliers ready to go.
So I helped both of them get a DPMS, the older one chose a Sportical slab side, the younger one a Oracle M4gery. Having to set them up, I fired the rifles, and when the older one wanted to sell his to buy an Axis .223 o_O , I offered him a trade; My .22 Axis and his old 870 for the Sportical.
Well, I started playing around with that, developing loads, etc. and soon, despite all the warning here not to build one  I built a 7" Pistol, but even with a linear compensator I didn't like the blast.
Like you I got back into it with a vengance; here's my latest build:

16" bear creek upper, an old Anderson lower, MOE stock & grip, and 1-8 Strike Eagle.

I’ve had ARs for years, but like lever action rifles that I also want to like, they have never floated my boat. Until recently I still had two Colts more on principle than out of enjoyment.

However, as I’ve posted elsewhere, reading about the 6.5 Grendel and 6mm ARC piqued my interest. I sold a bolt action and one of the Colts to fund a couple of new uppers in those calibers. I’m off work this week, so both will get their first outings if all goes according to plan.

Here’s the Grendel.

I bought an AR for coyote hunting years ago. Otherwise I wouldn't own one. My running gear has gotten to the point where I can't walk the miles required to do any good in my area and It just sits except when I install the 22 LR conversion unit and go plink steel. At least I still get some enjoyment from it.

You know how it goes...

If you have extra milk after eating your cereal in the morning, you just have to pour in a little more cereal.

More bullets than powder, you have to buy another can.

Well, I have an extra assembled AR lower in my safe. With no upper to go on it. And its driving me crazy.

Yes, I need help.

I have gotten out twice. and then back in. still don't like the looks or ergos, but they're just so darn accurate, modular and useful. I have 2 built lowers, 5 uppers, and a stripped lower that that keeps accumulating parts to turn into a complete rifle. then I sell the parts and the process starts over. The upper's aren't the problem. It's the optics on the uppers that really start to add up.

True. Even on sale, That 1-8 Strike Eagle cost more than the rest of the gun. (admittedly, the stock and grip were free, along with an MOE vertical grip that is going to someone else, as well as the BUIS I took off after mounting the scope)

i told my wife i was done buying ARs for this year. However Uppers aren’t ARs ;)
I tried that on my wife years ago and it worked but she has caught up on it now.
Got enough ammo and training in already, kept a lot of stuff just in case the urge returned.
I have had a setback as you will see in my next post.

Can't focus very well right now, that China Virus Weapon has probably grabbed my butt.
I removed the rest I said, just angry.
Going to be tested, temperature going up. Hope it isn't.

I bought my first one as soon as I could after I left the Army... an A2 H-bar, which I still have, bought in 1991. I have about 4, more or less, now at all times. Just working on getting them tricked out the way I want, for the most part... although my AR's are set up quite simple. I have a 5th under construction, but it's been setting there for about 2 years. I gave a DPMS Oracle to my brother a few years ago for his birthday... now he wants to 'new and improve' his... so he's bring it up next month and were going to do some work on it. I've already got a new barrel to replace the spaghetti noodle DPMS barrel, and I gave him a list of parts he will need to make it into a free-floater.

My lower 'under construction' is one of those builds that I can't make my mind up on. I need another lightweight carbine, yes, but I've also toyed with a 6.8SPC or 6.5 AR. I keep passing on those because of cost... and particularly now trying to tool up for a new cartridge might be an exercise in futility... but I want to.

That is totally unacceptable, you can have more uppers than lowers but never more lowers than uppers, that needs to be completed asap ;) and get another strip lower just in case.

I recently picked up a new barrel, a 16" 223 wylde 1:8 middy pencil barrel...

...Now the tricky part is figuring the rest of the upper out.

Might just do a straight swap and have it with a 15" mlok rail and a flat top reciever I already have.

But I'd like to do it on a A2 upper with no deflector or FA, free float tube, and an A2 FSB.

Decisions, decisions...

I love my 26cals, but I like the spc better. I have more guns chambered in 26cal than the rest I own combined.

I guess to can tell by the sound of my voice I am not back to myself yet but getting there.
Got 2 orders in this week from Midway, all about AR stuff. Like John Wick said, Yea I'm thinking I'm back.
Back into the build, buy, reload- itch of what I had been in rehab for, AR stuff again and in to stay this time.
