mine was so boring! i learnt nothing. everything mentioned was knowledge i already knew. was bitter cold on the shooting test. 4 degrees. all 20 rds hit the mark. i passed the written exam. now i have to wait a whole month to get my paper work back inorder to take it to the state police to get the license. then another 15days wait and $65.

its still worth it :)

I'm waiting for my appointment here in Stanislaus Co., CA. After wanting it like crazy for many years (the sheriff just changed his policy) the whole thing is starting to be a bit anticlimatic. I'll get it and I'll carry but I'm for sure not going to be really excited about it. Of course I'm something of an old fart and there's just not a LOT of things I get excited about anymore.

Edit: I'll have to admit that USFA Double Eagle I ordered last Friday has my blood run'n a bit quick!

My class was mostly boring, since I went in well-prepared, but it did provide some info that I wasn't aware of. An 8hr class + range qualify is required.

Periodically during the class, the instructor would ask "pop-quiz" type questions. I felt kinda bad answering most of them while the rest of the class was silent, but whatever. The videos were heavy on the cheese, but I guess it was easier than the instructor lecturing for 8 solid hours.

I wasn't a fan of the written test. It was half multiple-choice and half true-false. The multiple choice was stupid simple, but several of the true-false questions were tricky, and somewhat misleading. The true-false section was my worst part of the entire class.

Range qualifying was interesting. The competency some of those people had with a pistol was downright scary. They all shot well enough to pass, but there were a few that I would have definitely recommended more range time before carrying. I did get some "good shooting" comments from the classmates on my somewhat-ragged X-ring hole, though I did disappoint myself by pulling one shot center-low in the 8 ring during the double-action 20-yard shot.

Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd recommend it again. But I'm glad the renewal won't take nearly as long... 10 hours (after breaks) makes for a long day.

Mine was 12 hours of almost torture and had it not been about guns i would have just left.
Ive not been in a classroom for 22 years and i gotta say i did pay more attention this time around tho, And the instructor was a decent guy.
But when i left for the day as i did all 12 hours all at once i was dead butt tired.

But it had its fun parts, Like seeing the mother and daughter team.
The mom was shooting an old snubby .38 special with +P loads that made me jump like a little kid as we seemed to always shoot side by side. And the daughter was shooting a brand new SA XD .45 which amazed me both at how well they shot.

I feel sorry for you guys, in Oregon and Washington all you do is fill out the paperwork and take a 1 hour class (In Oregon) that has no test. Once that is done, *presto*, your CCW arrives in the mail about 20 days later or so. I guess in a lot of states they really make you go out of your way to get a CCW.

Indiana has the lifetime permit, but it takes about 10 weeks from the time you put in the paperwork (seems like a lifetime waiting for it to arrive). Just wish it had an instruction requirement, so it would be reciprical with a few more states.
