If someone is willing and able to break into your locked car.... I don't think these ideas will be much deterrent.

What do you think is the minimum level of security that would prevent a smash-and-grab thief from getting your gun?

Thanks, and I hear ya.

Don't confuse my use of the term "cheap" with the concepts of not being able to shoot it accurately and it not being a reliable piece.

It gets regular workouts at the range along with all the others.

It just doesn't have the pedigree.;)

If I have to leave my sidearm in the vehicle, I lock it in the glovebox.

I figger, locked inside my truck, locked in the glove box, with a real loud alarm system should be all the deterrent I need.

Alsoplustoo - it keeps my sidearm accessible quickly and already loaded...

doc540 I use your system. I have several handguns that were cheap to buy because of age, brand, mil-surp, or whatever. I shoot hundreds of rounds through them with no problems or fix them if they malfunction and shoot hundreds of rounds again. You should test your car gun no matter what it cost anyway. I keep one in the glovebox and don't worry about it, ready to go when needed. This is full size 45, 9mm, or 38 and not my carry gun. Two loaded mags with defense ammo and box of practice ammo under the seat. Sometimes coming home on a 2hr commute I'll pull over in the woods and ram a beverage and shoot the can for practice. No problem staying awake the rest of the way.

I always keep a handgun under the dash secured with black duck tape. I can reach it when sitting and you cant see it unless you crawl into the footwell on your back.

Hello friends and neighbors// Thanks to jakemccoy for the tip//I think the #2 pic is great for the purpose intended.// I will probably employ this when I MUST secure my revolver in my truck .// I already use a key lock with the key on my ring next to the truck key and a spare for both in my wallet// I live on the South and North Carolina border. In S.C. gun must be three steps away. I cut out the inside out of a dewalt drill box(plastic) added some memory foam and got the smallest lock (to obey law not secure the plastic box) that would fit. It holds 2 pistols, 2 boxes of 50 target, 1 box corbon 125 jhp for my 357, ear plugs and shooting glasses.//Approved by local S.C. sheriff at the range// After crossing into N.C. I put the case on seat beside me open// With this cable Idea I can secure both or multi weapons when I MUST leave them in the truck and all I need is a bigger lock and cable // Thanks again for the great idea...content // P.S. I never leave drill/gun box unattended even at the range.
