Drunk guard dies playing with gun

MANILA, Philippines -- A 28-year old security guard who had been drinking toyed with a loaded gun -- Russian roulette-style -- shot himself and fell from a building in Quezon City.
Alfred Concepcion, of the Cutting Edge Security and Investigation Agency, died late Friday afternoon, while undergoing treatment at the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) for a lone bullet wound in the temple.
Police Officer 2 Joel Gagaza of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said that Concepcion met the accident at around 11:45 p.m. Thursday, at the rooftop of the Narsan Building at 3 Westpoint Street in Barangay (village) West Triangle.
Gagaza said that Concepcion along with Edgar Salaon, Salvador Mangampo, and William Mangampo had just finished a drinking binge and were simply talking while seated on the rooftop ledge when the guard suddenly pulled out a .38 caliber revolver, and loaded it with three bullets.
Concepcion allegedly began playing with the trigger of the gun, squeezing it lightly as he reportedly told his drinking buddies, “This is beautiful,” in Filipino.
To their surprise, the witnesses said Concepcion leveled the gun to his right temple and squeezed the trigger. The gun fired and Concepcion fell to the third-floor veranda of the four-story building.
“The witnesses panicked and immediately informed the duty security guard of the accident. But the security guard also panicked and instead of bringing the victim to the hospital first, he sought police assistance,” Gagaza said in Filipino.
It was only after the police arrived that the Concepcion was brought to the EAMC. Gagaza said that apart from the bullet wound, Concepcion hit his head hard on the veranda floor.
Gagaza said police are still trying to determine who owns the gun that the Concepcion played with. He said the witnesses claimed they did not know who owned the gunned and were surprised that Concepcion had a pistol with him.
