Florida Repo Man

Hey everyone, well I currently work as a recovery agent in florida. As for guns, it's a rule, not allowed under any circumstances, different states different laws. In New York you don't even need a license to repo cars, and you can carry any gun you want. But florida is different, even if someone comes out screaming and says drop it, legally you have to..... Do we? If we can get, we'll get it, but if it will endanger someone, someone is between the truck and the car, you can't move, but we'll leave even if people are screaming as long as it's safe to do so. I don't know what they were screaming, I didn't hear anything did you? Radio must have been too loud. =) I don't know about other states, but I would agree. Repos are about stealth, espionage, and subtlety, if someone knows you're there, then you're not doing your job properly. You go in, grab the car and leave like the wind. We don't knock on doors and ask for keys. Granted they know they're car is up, but that doesn't mean we want them to come out and see that we're there and jump in the car, then we can't take it anymore. If it's blocked in legally in FL you can move another car to get to yours, as long as you put it in exactly the same spot. It's a little iffy though, because they can say you destroyed the tranny or the wheels and there's no recourse. But if you do the job properly, I've been doing it for a long long time, I'm only 26, but my dad has been in this business for over 10 years. I know everything when it comes to selling, financing and repoing the cars. He's been in every business dealing with cars since I was a kid. But if you do it properly, no one will come out and you will have the car with little effort. Sometimes we need to drag it, all you should hear is a slight squeal, more than that, and you're going to fast. Repossessions require lots of patience. Sometimes you'll pass by a house and see people on the car, just pass on by, and subtlely check the tag, if it is, we make it look like we're still looking for another car. Subterfuge is great. =) Then when we come back at a later time, they don't suspect us. So they'll be more relaxed giving us our window of 5 minutes to yank and take the car. You have to have the proper tools and equipment, if not you will always be in danger. Our rule, is to have a complete socket set, both styles of screwdrivers, door opening tools, wheellife ratchets, go jacks on the back, and jumper cables. We also have a wireless internet equipped laptop with GPS navigation. We know exactly where we're going and once we see the car, it comes with us. If the car is at the address, it's a 97% chance that we'll be leaving with it. 3% is if it's blocked in, someone is sitting on it, or people come out screaming because we're inside their yard, because they tucked the car right by the front door. So for me, I would never carry a gun on a repo. Because I know I'm good enough that I won't need it. We carry baseball bats, but that's just precautionary, and we can justify it by saying we need it for the truck, to hit the sides for lights, or hold the hood open. Cops can't do anything about a baseball bat, but they can for guns, tasers, and any other firearm. We're not allowed to carry weapons of any kind or firearms. It's in the florida statutes, but different states different laws. I hope that clarifies a little.

I do not work as a repo agent but I am a bail bond agent. I would carry pepper spray and then a CONCEALED firearm. (Sig 229, Colt .45 Commander),These are a last resort. The less drama, the better.
