Well, there's a $60 price drop on the recent intro Armscor/CD 40SW hi-cap. Hmmm, the price'll still fall down, I mused. Better wait another year or two...
Saw an $820 Peters Stahl framed hi-cap 1911 in 45ACP. Interesting, it's well made... but it's got the milspec grip safety and the slide has no markings whatsoever. A hybrid, I thought... But it's good enough so much so that I've decided to spend some time researching about that gun. Moving on...
Then chanced upon this gun in the Taurus booth:
It lay beside the older Millenium models, that when I first passed by it, I didn't notice that it was a different one.
"Hand me that one, please..."
Interesting... It's got the same slide as the PT140, but the frame is beefier somehow. Its now thicker at the rear, a bit taller, too...
Hey! This one has NO safety lever! But the red dot on the slide is still there, so that's kind of goofy.
The frame retaining pins are definitely smaller, about only half the diameter of the PT-1xx's. Can't say for certain, but the only way they can do this is if it's steel. That's got to be good news, especially addressing the Skyslash issue. (For those who're interested, go to TFL and search for that scary one)
Its got generous 3-dot novak type rear, post front sights. It holds 11+1 of 40SW, and the PT609 holds 13+1 of 9mm, two mags per gun. Very nice.... very nice indeed.
At about half the price of a G26, this is a potential bargain, as I suspect that the weakness of the PT-1xx series should have already been addressed with the complete redesign of the frame of this model already.
Too bad, I can't test the trigger pull, as it's trigger guard is clamped shut. But the store rep swears by the 640's improved trigger, just as long but lighter and smoother than the old ones. I hope I could try one for myself and be the judge of that.
The store has these models only for display, but may be available for purchase at the next gunshow, maybe in August.
Oh, the agony of waiting...
In the meantime, anyone here thinks that this here PT-6XX is it? Has Taurus really "cracked" the cracking issue, particularly with this one?
