Folks,

I got an H&K P7 in a trade. I like the gun, but I need help identifying it. I looked on line and found an endless pit of information on the variant P7's.

Desc: A pristene Blued 9mm semi auto P7 with the plum colored slide, fixed sights; all the German markings on the left side of the slide; on the alternate slide of the slide is a four digit serial number (41XX), HK P7 on each plastic grip panel. Mine has the European mag release; two factory mags, box with same serial number, and manual. The pistol also has "Trussville AL" on the left side of the frame.

Questions:

P7? Or PSP?

Is the low serial number rare? No Alpha prefix before serial number.

Value? (Its a safe queen at this point)

Thanks,

This is a P7. It is one of the nice German police guns floating around right now. It is worth 5-800 depending on condition. It will be worth much more long term.

No, calling it a PSP is actually incorrect, although you see people do it all the time here on THR. The original PSPs, very few of which were ever made, had PSP on the slide and no grip markings. Anything with P7 on the grips, is unsurprisingly, a P7. PSP was what they called it during the police trials, P7 is what they called it once it had been accepted, and the P7M8 and P7M13 were later models with obvious changes.
