I'm looking to get some opinions on the matter. The usual argument that the handgun is to fight your way to your rifle don't seem to apply here since we're talking about a PCC.

Her choice in a handgun is the .38 Special Smith 67. Her choice in a long gun due to weight restrictions is the HK94 clone (Coharie CA94). I don't know of any other long gun that is as light as this.

She's got a preference for the Coharie because of the ammo capacity, but she doesn't have the easiest time manipulating and operating it. The revolver is a little big for her hands, but she seems to be able to shoot it single action okay and double action so-so.

Any opinions between the two given the situation?

Doesn't sound like either are a particularly good fit for her.

Yeah, I know, but she's gotta make do. Other semi autos fit her hands better but she has a hard time operating even a 9mm 1911 with a 10 lb. recoil spring. And yes, we've already read the Cornered Cat articles and seen the videos.

How long is the S&W? 4" is great for a bedside gun but a 2.5" -3" carries a lot better. The 38spl with the right ammo is a very respectable defensive round. I carry the old FBI load or 125gr Nyclad +P rounds in my .38s and .357s.
As for the rifle, my wife and I both love my Marlin 1894 in .357mag. I have A LOT of guns to choose from but for our needs and location the Marlin and a good quality wheelgun work great! Best of luck and WAR EAGLE!!!!:)

The Cohaire is probably not a gun you want to bet your life on. Cohaire is really Special Weapons. They and Vulcan/Hesse have probably two of the worst reps among long gun manufacturers. Add this to the fact that she has some trouble manipulating and operating it...

Have she had a chance to look at an AR-15? Particualry one with a lighweight "pencil" profile barrel? I know times aren't the best for purchasing one, money is tight, etc. but is it possible to sell the Cohaire and buy something better?

Has she looked at the Beretta CX-4 Carbine or the Keltec Sub2000? Or the Marlin Camp 9? Or the Ruger PC-9?
