I see that J&G Sales in Arizona have an S&W 99c in 9mm for $390. That seems lik a good price. I aready have a Glock 26 and CZ 100 which are tactically similar to the 99. Although both the Austrian and Czech pistols are OK, as far as I'm concerned, I could get rid of either and never miss it. They just don't ligt my fire.
I know some don't like the 99 magazine release, but I'm familiar with the design thanks to my Walther P22. What about the decocker location on the top of the slide?
What do y'all think about the 99 in comparison to my other guns? CZ 100s are rare, I think; Glock 26s are all over the place.

What I meant to say is that they perform the same function as compact or sub-compact concealed carry guns, like a Colt Detective Special and Smith&Wesson Chief Special.

For Artiz
What are the advantages of the Walther over the Smith?
And as I said in the OP, the price on the used S&W 99c from J&G Sales seemed fair. Looking at Gunbroker and Gunsamerica didn't turn up a cheaper 99.

Yeah I know P99s are pricey, but it's always worth it as I read reviews after reviews.
Anyway, it's your choice, and the fact that you are interested in the desing of the 99, makes it an even better choice, ;).

I owned a full-size SW99 for a time. I enjoyed it very much. I wish Glock had a grip that felt as good to me. While a lot of shooters don't care for the decocker, it didn't bother me. I like the lever style mag release built into the trigger guard, and found it easy to work.

As you know, the SW and Walther are essentially the same design. I have not shot or even really examined them side by side, but I thought the fit and finish of the SW was excellent.
