OK, I've had SIG's, Glocks, CZ's, etc...but I'm looking for something different. Here is the criteria:
1. Reliable
2. 9mm, .40 or .45
3. Double stack preferable
4. Full size, but no cannon(no compact or sub either)-larger hands
The gun will ONLY be for home defense/range--no CCW. Price doesn't matter--I'm just looking to get something a little unique that everyone and his brother doesn't own. So what should I be looking for?

Hi Mayo, how's things at the clinic?

You're looking for a Browning Hi Power Practical. :)

HK USP. Maybe not as unique as you might like, but not a common as say a Glock or 1911. That not unique enogh? Or expensive enough, well there is always Korth.

Have fun looking.

Calhoun

Edited to add: By the way, welcome to The High Road.

How about one of these?

Calico M950 9mm, with 50 round drum.
If you get home invaded by 30 or 40 badguys you will be ready for em! :neener:

Well - as you did not refer to it specifically - I'll be second to suggest a BHP .... one of JMB's classics IMO - dead reliable, fits good and tho quite spendy - worth it. Here - the BHP practical.

BTW - all but forgot ... welcome :)

Beretta? You can get one of the stranger flavors like an INOX or Vertec. Whatever floats your boat. It's huge for a 9mm but a solid gun and easy to shoot. Looks cool too.

Or how about a Smith and Wesson 59 series?

Only ones I can really think of not already mentioned.

PS: trickasafox beat me to it!

Another thought: If you can get Mataba to cough up the M207 prototype it's the only low barreled 9mm DA revover I know of. ;) Not sure on reliability though.

You need one of these ... a .75-caliber over-and-under howdah pistol. Should see off any intruder in great style! :D

Some good suggestions guys, still looking for a little less common(but not a Korth  ). Anybody have any thoughts or experience with STI? Thanks.

I would also suggest an STI. Sounds like what you want to me. I don't really have much experience with them. I have handled them before. They seem like great guns. They are used a lot in competition matches. I would like to have one but my next high end 1911 will be an Ed Brown. Get the Comemmorative or the Special Edition version if you really want something that hardly any one will have. STI
A litte less expensive rout would be a Para-Ordnance double stack 9mm. They are nice as well. P18-9 LDA 18-9 LDA 18-9 Limited

2 more things:
1. What's the reliabilty of the STI
2. What if I keep the same criteria(reliable, double stack, full size, for home defense only) but add that it can be either in .40 or .45 as well, what guns would I look at then. Thanks again everybody.

I had an H&K Expert. It was the most accurate non 1911 I have ever had. It was a .45.

Springfield XD40 Service! Great feel & double stacked 12rd mag. Tactical rail and a few mods and accessories out there for it. Should get more popular after a couple more years.

What about a Star Megastar in .45acp or maybe one of the Benellis in 9mmr one of the Daewoos, I mean, not everyone can say they own a gun made by a company which makes cars/computers/stereos... or one of those Enforcer "pistols" that were made from m1carbines.

How about a Wilson Combat KZ45. Actually I guess it would be "a stack and a half" magazine with it's dedicated 10 round mag. Had one a couple of years back. Should never have gotten rid of it.

How about holding out for a Beretta PX4Storm? Rotating barrel design, interchangeable backstraps & 20 rds. of 9mm or 17 of .40S&W.

Here's it's webpage
