My take:
Looks like a former bomb-maker. Loss of both hands is an occupational hazard in that kind of work.
The AK is set on full automatic (1 notch down). The position of the scope allows him to see the iron sights below it. The scope is a good one, probably 3-9x variable zoom. It has a lighted reticle and focus adjustment. The side plate scope mount is a Picatinny rail. The scope and sidemount may have been purchased in the US. The *very* high scope mount is custom fitted for him, as when he shoulders the rifle it will be lower than normal due to his lack of hands (plus he has to see over his nub. I wonder if that gets really hot due to the fact his nub is strapped to the gas tube).
The ribbed receiver cover and hand guard mark this as a Romanian AK(?). The front sight block has been moved back, but the barrel is still long, indicating that someone may have been working on the rifle and wasn't finished yet - he's probably going to cut the barrel down next.
The stock is a custom job, looks like a T of steel tubing on a wire folder.
