We see some neat stuff up here in Canada.

My local gunshop had an unfired 9mm HK UMP. Price $6500 Canadian.
It was very nice but I let it pass. To give some comparison, here are some Canadian prices for common guns.

P99: $1099
Kimbers: $1300
Berettas: $1090
AR-15's: about $1500+ depending on model
Swiss Arms PE90(Sig 550 clone): $3000

I was told it was 1 of 3 in our country and the other 2 were used. It was very tempting but I'm saving up money for when/if Canada lets in short barreled Sig rifles.

Any other Canadian THR members with opinions on the UMP???

Either way, I have not been impressed with the system. The stock is not as comfortable as the MP5, and the selector switch is still too high.

If you want a 9mm rifle, get an old Camp 9 from Marlin. Easy to find mags, plenty of accessories, much, MUCH cheaper. If you really wanted to spend the money, the MP5 copies are fun, too.

I put a couple hundred rounds through a UMP. I didn't like it at all. It just didn't feel right. I had a problem hitting with it. The MP5 seems to be more more ergonomic.

I really like the UMP-45. I've put about 400 rounds through the SMG on two different occasions. They need to ditch the square rear sight, though. A square sight with a round apreture in it is annoying to me for some reason.

It's a semiauto version of the UMP. It seems somehow a small number of HK 'non-civvie' firearms finds its way to the market and someone pays an obscene amount for it. One fellow for instance paid $8000 Canadian for a Semiauto G36. I believe there is 1 or 2 in the whole country.

The way I rationally avoided buying it was:

1. It's a short barreled 9mm
2. Getting parts would be a pain
3. We can get Sig 550's for $3000 Canadian with readily available parts and it's super accurate and in .223

Still...for a few minutes I thought about getting it....;)

I'm a big HK fan, but I'd definitely get the Sig 550 over a Semi-auto UMP.

$3000 Canadian for a 550? WOW!

Too bad I couldn't take a trip up there and bring back a dozen or so. They go for a LOT more than that Stateside.

$6500 for a USC?!!?! That's insane. That's like a $900 gun. (the semi-auto version of the UMP is the USC...)

I've held one before. It was very tonka-toy-ish. Didn't do it for me.
