How good a year are you having?

So far, not doing quite as good as I did last year this time, social life sucks, dealing with some rather expensive health issues, and I'm just dying to get the hell out of NYC.

But you know what - overall I really have no room to complain. It could certainly be worse and I thank God for what I have. I've got a great family and friends, and a decent job where I can afford to take care of all my bills and still take a month off. My gun buying has slowed a little this year, but so far I've picked up a V51 SBR, Savage 110, a dedicated .22 upper, and a few suppressors. Also bought a Fender resonator and started playing guitar (err...trying to play...) and love it. Shoulda done that 30 years ago...

Lets see, 5 years left on a fixed rate mortgage.

Wife finally healthy enough after open heart surgery 1-1/2 years ago to go back to work!

Work 2 miles from home, can and have walked it.

kids have all moved out, we are lovin' that "empty nest" thing.

15 months tobacco free ( can a day of Copenhagen snuff for 32+ years).

I've bought 3 guns so far this year, AR-15, S&W model 60 and a Ruger Mk-III.

And last night I found a riding mower that has a good engine but a bad transmission so i bought it for $100 and can now put my good rider that brooke a rod last year back together with the "new" engine.

been a good year so far, may be time to get my back to a wall....

Wound another year of college up, I am on my last year.
Added a GSG-5 with the tax return, and am thinking of a M1A to round out my collection to it's end.
I have put a small amount of ammo away also, about 20,000 rds for rifles and about 6,000 for pistol.
The best part of my year was my daughters interest in doing things with daddy growing. She wants to shoot BB guns, so that is what we are gonna do.

Year has not been bad so far. Gas is a pain, prices on everything else is up but it has not really hurt me too bad if you don't count the 50K I lost out of my 401k account but I hope it will come back eventually.
I did manage to build myself a custom AR in .50 Beowulf and bought a few others...
Remington VLS in 22-250, I topped it with a Leupold VXIII LR 6.5-20x40mm scope
Savage mod 11 BGTH in .223, I topped it with a Leupold VXIII 4.5-14x50mm scope
Norinco SKS, still trying to decide what I'm going to do on it.
Just ordered a Stag Arms mod 6 Super Varminter, waiting on it to come.
That should be it for me this year, I promised the wife she could get a new car for Christmas.

Its been a good year for us so far despite the gas prices making filling the Suburban painful (little, fuel-efficient cars do not hold 2 adults, 4 kids, and a month's worth of groceries for a big family).

Our business start up is supporting us as well as the job DH left and prosperity will come with time and effort.

We bought guns for everyone (still looking for that .22 revolver for DD), and got CHLs for DH and I.

Everyone is in good health and our teens are finding interests that could well result in lifelong callings and careers.

The kitchen remodel is nearly complete.

Because we were careful with our mortgage and chose an undervalued house 2 years ago the place is worth more than we've put into it despite the fallen market.

And there's no reason why the rest of the year shouldn't get better too.

Financially, it’s been good, but I also won’t be surprised if I don’t get a raise this year. Last year, our cash flow leveled out, and this year it went positive. We didn’t buy land in Oregon, but my wife’s car will be paid off next month.

After much study, I figured out how to sidestep California’s asinine gun-control laws and legally imported several C&R handguns earlier this month. I now have plenty of guns to tinker with. Unfortunately, ammunition could soon become a real problem.

Oh, and there was this Supreme Court decision … :D

Things started out good for me this year. Bought a Lee hand press and got started reloading with 30-30's first and then I started with .38's/.357's. Got my GED in April. My Boss and I were behind on a few jobs so we worked four weekends straight which put some extra money in my pocket. Then in late May my girlfriend and I of seven years split up and it kinda seems like things are kinda blah for me now. Though my boss has enough work, I'm only averaging 35-28 hours a week. After my g/f split with me I started smoking again, it would have been three years in December that I had quit. I do have a used Rockland Arms .45acp on layaway at a local pawn shop that I will be getting out next month. With gas and food prices going up I don't have much play money but I know things will get better they always do, no matter how much of a rut I think I'm in.

The wife and I left DC (cause enough for celebration there) got new (far lower stress) jobs, bought a house, got a dog.

I now have a small workshop, a reloading setup, and am happily cranking out .38 Special cowboy loads at my own pace.

The gun purchasing funds have dried up with all of the house renovations but I can't really complain as I'm -plenty- busy and have at least one firearm to fill any niche I care to shoot in.

Health's doing pretty good ('cept maybe for the allergies) and I've dropped 12 lbs and still dropping.

On the whole I'm doing pretty well this year!

Despite our awful Michigan economy...I upgraded jobs after a surprise layoff, My wife upgraded to a government job, I added 3 rifles and 1 pistol to my cabinet, I started handloading for all calibers I own. They only bad thing was I just had the heater core on my pickup take a dump, and had to get the home A.C. fixed.

I consider it to be a good year for my wife and I.

I've lived thirty-three years longer than my pediatrician said that I would. The house will be paid off in the next few months. Family income has doubled. Bought a CZ-52, a SMLE No4 Mk2 (F), a WASR10, a Mosin-Nagant 91/30, a pristine ROA in stainless and a matching Single Six, a couple of modern muzzle-loaders, and a really strange dog named Molly. For the first time in ten years I've found a gun, a butchered '76 Winchester.
My mother and my annoying sisters are still happy in California.
Yep, life is good.

Awesome year

This has been an awesome year , i got a kitten who loves to go shooting that's right a cat no idea why.

I am also getting a K31 or MAsuer 24 :)

Well actually losing weight for a change, but mostly due to back problems, good news is that I think I am recovering.

Bought a CZ 550 with the surplus check, and now I am tempted to pick up one of many things in the nearish future.

Now at least I have a plan...

Get a AR-15 lower/then work on the rest
Get a SKS
Get a Replica blackpowder Colt
Get a Revolver/Makarov/CZ52 for self defense :)

Much less disposable income this year. Trying to finish off a master's degree this year and saving up a bunch of money to live in NYC for 9 months. After graduation, I hope I can land a decent job somewhere NOT in NY and pay off the 60k I have in student loans.

On the gun side of things, this year I bought: GSG-5, Ruger MkII Target, and a M1 carbine from CMP. I that's about all my budget will allow of course anything can happen between now and September :D

Let's see. I'm getting to know and love my new bride more and more each day. We had the best vacation of my life a month ago. We've adopted one of the most intelligent and loving dogs I've ever encountered. I'm enjoying my hobbies, and developing new ones. My family and friends are doing well, even in the face of health troubles.

I'd say I'm having a great year.

I bought a CZ PO-1.

I sold my Bersa T380CC and bought a Kahr P9 Covert.

I sold my Walther P22 and bought a Browning Buckmark Standard.

I bought a Romanian Civil Guard (G-Code) AK and refinished the furniture.

I bought a Yugo M70 B2 Underfolder.

I bought a Mossberg 500 Tactical.

I sent my wife's S&W M&P 9 Compact to Bowie Tactical Concepts for night sights, a trigger job and a ramp and chamber polishing. She absolutely loves it now.

The wife and I spent a few days in Vegas, saw some sights, caught some shows and then did the 4-Day Defensive Handgun course at Front Sight.

I am taking the classes to become an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor and Range Safety Officer next month.

I'd say it's been a decent year so far.

Not to be an Eeyore, but pretty bad. This year my wife's parents are in the last stages of their failing health, requiring almost all of our time and emotional capital. My health hasn't improved in spite of my doc's efforts, and partly due to my in-law's situation. Regardless, my wife's still able to work, I'm keeping the farm tended, and God still loves us. Guess I shouldn't complain, eh?

No new guns this year. Actually, no new guns for several years. I don't shoot anything but .22 anymore, except that over the Independence Day weekend we burned up a few CF rounds.

I'm only averaging about 10-20 hrs work per week, which is enough to get by but not enough to save or do any projects.

My biological father gave us a two year old car :) and I went to visit some family that I had never met before.

Wife of 26 years and I are still together. One of my two surviving daughters is doing well but the other is not (don't even ask - NOYDYB!).

Started off this year doing a lot of riding as weather permitted. On May 10 my horse seriously injured himself and I couldn't ride him for over a month. Then last Friday I had a bad fall and I think I broke a rib. So I've been pretty much incapacitated right in the middle of summer, with lots of chores that need to be done - not to mention not being able to ride for quite a while. :(

All in all, could be worse - could be a lot better.

Great thread! I enjoyed reading everyones take on their personal situation. I'm glad to hear that the majority of people are doing just fine, if not very well, this year. From what you see and read in the news it sounds like everyone is doing horribly. I guess a story about someone that is doing just fine doesn't sell papers.

Life is going pretty well. Yes, it makes me mad when I fill up the car for $100 but still can't let go of the SUV. My job is secure. I was lucky enough to take a great vacation earlier this year to the USVI and have a few fishing/hunting trips lined up for the second half of the year.

On the gun front, I haven't bought anything this year but am planning on picking up a handgun in the next month...maybe another shotgun too :) I haven't finished researching what I want but when I reach a decision I've got my wallet ready!

Overall...I have nothing to complain about!

Well, I have had only one raise in five years. Part of my income is commission based and sales are down (thanks to gas, milk, food, blah, blah, blah), so, you get the picture.

My dad died 2 1/2 years ago and my mom just cannot handle it, thus, a lot of time spent at her house and nowhere else. Emotionally draining to say the least.

Even with that I have picked up a Ruger Mk II, Mk III, two Saigas, a nickle Colt Cobra and a S&W 13-4.

Man, that McDonalds dollar menu has been coming in handy.

So far, this year isn't all that great. I work in telecom as a contractor and the last few years have been a bit lean. I have several guns I want, like a S&W M&P40, but unless things pick up, not going to happen this year.

I love my job and look forward to going in each morning. Put more hours in than I should, but I don't mind it at all.
Our son's clientèle is increasing (strength coach for athletes and personal trainer) and he is financially almost on his own. I don't mind helping him a bit because he is turning out to be a fine human being. What isn't good for me is that I can't take him anymore in mixed martial arts. He manages to put me in submission holds almost at will. He's looking to find SANE and NON_FLAKEY young women in the 22-25 year old range, and one matching his lifestyle of exercise, no drinking (to excess) and no smoking.
My wife of 38 years is a wonderful woman. I appreciate her more as time passes.
Bought a Stag AR15, XD45, S&W 3913, 1903A3, Lee-Enfield#4MK1* over the past year.
Salary could be higher, but I've made conscious choices that keep me in a position I enjoy for cost me some salary.
Ron

Health has been the big nagging point this year. Looking to address some of those issues. Work is hard, big surprise. No raise this year. Glad to have the work. Had to buy a small car due to not being able to afford the truck's gas consumption. Can't afford to sell the truck due to home renovations. Excess income is a distant memory due to GF going back to school to finish accounting degree.

Still and all we're reasonably healthy and happy. I still get to the range, and attend to my other hobbies. My friends are all still healthy and employed. Things could be worse.
