is that it cost me $250 to "prove" that i am one of the "good guys" to big brother government and the rest of the populous and therefore i can now carry out my God given right "legally".

It's been a while but IIRC it cost me about $170 ($60 class, $60 license, $50 to renew every 4 years). I don't count the other stuff because I would have bought it anyway.
