When I get home from the range, I pull the bore snake through it 4 or 5 times, wipe it off, and put it away. Nothing more than that. Once a year they get a good cleaning, usually during the winter, after hunting season is over.
If a gun is fired, it gets cleaned. Guns are like teeth, you certainly don't have to brush and floss every day but if you do, your teeth they'll last longer, look better and do a better job along the way.
