I bought a little ammo. I'm a 2nd time buyer on GB. The first auction was paypal, etc. This auction I won has no way of actually paying. I emailed the very popular seller, no reply. Do they send an invoice? It's not like eBay where I can pay immediately . Thanks!

If he's an experience seller on gunbroker he'll contact you with payment options. Normally within 24 hours, but if he's busy it could be a little longer.

You may have better luck posting on the GB forum. You will catch a lot of flack, but you may also find a solution.

Good Luck

It is normally in the auction as to what manner of payment they accept, as well as how much shipping is. Most will accept a USPS money order.

It clearly states what payments are accepted, but no way to get the ball rolling and pay for it....

Whenever I win an auction on GB,I don't wait to be contacted by the seller. I contact him by e-mail asking for payment details. It makes it easy for the seller to respond.

That will cover you against a "non-paying bidder" against you in the event that the seller doesn't get in contact with you.

It should, but I had one jerk who filed against me despite the MO being in the mail and my trying to contact him via email and phone for three days. It worked out, but jeez, some folks are a pain to deal with. (Note to self, never deal with someone with over a dozen negatives. Big dummy me.)

Good luck. Just stay on the offensive. :)

I tried to register to buy something on GB (as I recall) and the site INSISTED that I give the site a credit card number in order to register as a buyer.

They said that it was to protect sellers or something from unscrupulous bidders..

Um, no thanks.

There's way too much theft of credit card numbers from web databases.

mopar92,
Yes, the seller/buyer ratings are important. If someone has been a jerk in the past, they’ll most likely continue to do so.

In addition, be very careful of PayPal when dealing w/ payment for gun related items. PayPal is owned by eBay and both have policies prohibiting gun related merchandise. Loading equipment is okay, but NOT bullets, ammo, primers or guns. They’ll lock the sender/recipient accounts if you use PayPal to openly pay for a item they don’t approve of. The way I handle it on Gunbroker is to list “discreet PayPal” okay. And tell the buyer, not to use works like bullets, ammo, primers or guns in the message that accompanies their payment.

NRA_guy,
I heard that Gunbroker needs to have a non–free e-mail account linked to the account or they’ll change a dollar to verify that there is a real person behind the account. In a nutshell, if you use hotmail, g-mail, yahoo, etc., they’ll want to know the “real name” for a [email protected] account. I am sure stuff can be faked by stealing a credit card, but then the address would not be right and make the account suspicious.

I joined Gunbroker quite a few years back and am a seller; so I have not had to do this.

Why anyone would willingly put money in the pockets of openly anti-gun PayPal is beyond me.

Nikita Khrushchev said, "When it comes time for us to hang you, you capitalists will sell us the rope."

Pogo said, "We have met the enemy and he is us."

I closed my PayPal account a long time ago, and use Postal Money Order or a bank check.

I don't like doing that either but to verify the account gunbroker transfers a couple of bucks to your account. Because of the Sarbanes–Oxley Act they've got to notify you of any data breach and make good on it. For the past couple years I've had a $2 balance on my account deposited by gunbroker.

A credit card is a good option if the seller is set up to use credit cards. otherwise the individual that may be selling an item will require a form of payment that they can redeem. PMO or check or standard money order has worked for me in the past. I like a PMO as I have to go to the PO for mail and get stamps/mail it out anyway. Most sellers will email you within a couple days and I personally have had no problems in that respect. I once had a seller email me within 10 min of auction close with the info, I sent the PMO the same day and after 3 weeks and a complaint to GB I got a cheap holster with an email that they had to resend it several times as my address was wrong and I should not give bad feedback.:fire: I called BS and figured that they had to BUY a holster for me and had to wait for it to get to them first. It was a great deal and I would have been understanding if they had only emailed me of any problems. No contact or return emails for 3 weeks was not good. BTW same address and spelling for 25 years so not my fault on shipping to wrong address. This was only one time in 100+ transactions however.

Orionengnr,
I use PayPal for selling and buying for a few reasons. Convenience is top of the list. The Post Office (aka PO) is crowed and keeps lousy hours. Another smaller contract PO at the local hardware store does not like to cash large money orders. Cashing money orders for decent amount like over $50.00 at the less crowed contract PO does not go well as they don’t have lots of cash in the register. My bank is further away. I can sell, receive funds and ship all from my computer.

Another reason is card security. Having many merchants have you credit card number stored in their computer system expose your card in a possible data breach. PayPal is big and as I work in the behind the scenes at a retailer‘s IT department, I know they are subjected to audits by VISA and MasterCard known as Payment Card Industry (PCI). The bigger the merchant in dollars spent the more scrutiny a merchant gets.

In summary, for personal reasons I discreetly use PayPal even though they are anti-gun.
