Hi all,

As I was cleaning the inside of my Rem 1100 this evening, the feed latch fell out. How do I go about re-installing it? How does it stay in? I couldn't find any other parts that fell out that might hold it in. Thanks!

Chris

They're both (there's one on each side) supposed to be "staked" into their slots, with a little piece of metal punched over onto them from the interior wall of the receiver. This is really a job for a gunsmith, who'll have the proper staking tool for the job, and he'll be able to make sure it's located properly.

As added advice to the above good info: DO NOT attempt to re-stake the shell latches unless you have the RIGHT factory type tool.

Trying to re-stake with a standard punch can damage the receiver.

NOT re-staking the latches will usually cause failure to feed jams, and you can't trust the gun.
Sorry, but this is one of those times you HAVE to see the gunsmith.

Thanks for the reply, guys. Where do I get the "little piece of metal" to restake it? Do I need to find it myself, or will the gunsmith have it?

Chris

The "little piece of metal" is actually part of the receiver itself; it's the metal that's displaced sideways when the staking tool is driven into the receiver (imagine a centre punch, that shoves metal out sideways when you use it). You should actually be able to see the original stake(s) that failed when the latch popped out of its location.
