My son just got an older 1100, ran fine as it was, he disassembled it and says the feed latch "fell out" and appeared to be "bent".
I know nothing about the 1100, so thought I'd ask advice here first.
He e-mailed "When I took the trigger group out the feed latch fell out. When I put everything together and loaded the mag it wouldn't cycle."
Again I don't know ANYTHING about 1100s, so I dont know if reasssembled it wrong or what the issue is.
He's in Kansas and I'm in Maine, so I can't get a "hands-on".
Any wisdom is appreciated.
Bolt won't go far enough to feed a round.

Terminology can send this in all kinds of directions. The "latch" is held on the trigger housing via a small cross pin that is peened on the ends. The spring and plunger for the latch are on the front center of the housing.

If the latch fell out , then the cross pin is broken. I wonder however if he may be refering to a different part. Like the magazine enteruptor for example. Perhaps he can send pictures for you to post.

The feed latch is staked into the receiver so it doesn't fall out when you disassemble it. It is supposed to be "bent". Tell him to go to www.remington.com and download an owner's manual. You can Superglue it back in place, just make sure the bent tip sticks toward the inside of the receiver, and the hole lines up with the pin. Once it is in place the trigger group and pin hold it in the right orientation anyway. I Superglued one about 4 or 5 years ago as a temporary fix, and now I don't remember which one it was. I'll never stake it again.

If that is the latch he mentions ( and giving more thought, is likely to be the one) then Virginian has it correct. The installation of the magazine feed latch does require staking, or can be held in position by other means. The forward tip of this part has to be positioned correctly as well as the trigger housing pin hole . This part has a curve to it for maintaining tension and does not have a seperate spring.
