Huglu ArmsCo and CZ-USA have reached a mutual agreement that grants complete distribution rights and limited trademark use
of Huglu shotguns to CZ-USA. Beginning Jan.1, 2005, CZ-USA
will take over all sales, marketing and warranty of Huglu products
in North America

interesting

CZ's website already has all the models (bobwhite, ringneck, etc) from Huglu listed, but no mention whatsoever of the actual MANUFACTURER is made. :(

fortunately, you can still get info from the google cache

With my love of all things "CZ", I have been wanting to get the CZ Redhead in 20 guage. I think that is the perfect gun for me to train my bird dogs with as well as shoot quail in the field trials.

Go down to the thread "36 gauge" guys. It's a Huglu, imported by Armsco.

If they keep the quality the same they should be great sellers. I might have to put the 28ga Ringneck down for a future purchase.

Don't put it off too long - April is almost upon us. I turn 50 in April. :D

Good Looking Shotguns! CZs have done a great job on other platforms with QC and service. They continue this with shotguns, and there are gonna be some Shotgun Mfgs we know of now - going by the wayside.

I read an article the other day in Shooting Sportsman IIRC and got a chuckle out of the description the town of Huglu, population 3500, and their gunmaking cooperative. They have a large CNC facility and clays range, but no hotel or restaurant.

i know it's pronounced 'hooloo' but out of curiosity, do you guys pronounce it like that? or with the 'g'?

i just can't bring myself to say "hooloo" :)

I believe these shotguns are made in Turkey. While they're no Beretta or Browning premier grade, they're very well made and are quite a bargain for the money.

I have an S2 in 20 ga and like it a lot. It is a beautiful gun. I am currently using it for cowboy action shooting, as it does not have ejectors. It really gets the looks- much nicer looking than the 1897 copies or coach guns a lot of people use.

Gee not to rain on this parade, but having seen at least 12 Oooooooglues over the past few years, all of which make the gunsmiths roll thier eyes (OK Ill be honest...junk!) I dont think that CZ takin over is gonna make em any better...

An equivalent Browning or Winchester is anywhere from 30-50% more money, but 10 times the gun. Penny wise, pound foolish....its not a bargian when they are crap....

Ken,

I hear what you are saying. I have my druthers as far as shotguns are concerned. I'm partial to Citori's for example.

I see these being bought for a "fun gun" by folks with the nicer Brownings, Winchesters, and Berettas...They know and realize they are not top notch quality, and getting parts / service are suspect.

I recall the Remington 3200, I had one. I recall when Rem came out with the Peerless...nowhere the quality of the 3200. The brochure for the Peerless "referred " to the 3200. Marketing.

I have handled the Spartan , the Bakail with Remington's name on it...err...umm

This is where the CZ/Uglu , Stoeger's Niche is. I personally feel these buyers are folks that have nice quality guns. These folks use these imports to fill a niche - be it Cowboy Shooting , or Fun.

I don't recommend these as a first and only gun.

What do I know? I still like single shots. In .410 no less. :D

Yes the Steven's with the opening lever is really nice on a single shot.

The Stoeger with the "pull back trigger guard " is different - and one has to REALLY instill the safety with one.

So I got a hankering for anoter H&R , wood and blue .410 single shot. They have a history, they work, and the factory gives good service. Not that anyone ever really needs one serviced.

I'm kinda funny about my druthers. :uhoh: ;)

Well WA, when I picked up my .410 Huglu, it was meant for a fun gun. If you could find me a Browning or Winchester like new in box .410 for 30-50% more with a single trigger or even a 100% I would probably jump at the chance. But you know you can't. I don't think that Browning made a .410 SxS and WInchesters go for $4000 to $40,000 for a similar gun.

The fit and finish is comparable on my gun to a $2500 Beretta SxS that I have shot. Once I get a bit of trigger work done to my .410 I will be extremely pleased with my gun and the $800 that it cost me. No it's not as good as my Beretta target gun, but it wasn't meant to be, it was meant to be an entry level SxS that the common man could be able to afford to buy. Three of my friends that shoot K80 Krieghoff Superscrolls shot my little SxS and were very impressed with the fit and feel, other than the triggers. They were trying to find one for themselves, as play guns.

What these guns are is an entry level affordable gun that the main stream gun makers don't build.

kudu,

Now tell the truth here my friend. :p

See folks , kudu has 3 of the cutest daughters you have ever seen. Two are twins btw. Everyone knows [tm] that:

-What you do for one - the others are going to expect something as well.
-You get all 3 kids the same flavor of soda, unless you want an argument - then bring 3 different flavors.

Translated that means : with one lone male vote in the household - "majority rules" - ain't gonna happen in his favor. He ( kudu) has his nice guns, he wants to keep them, and he don't want to attract any "boys" near his daughters any time soon. He is trying to save monies to bribe daughters into eloping down the road...cheaper than a wedding, darn sure cheaper than 3 weddings!

Besides one daughter has "claimed" this new Huglu, the other two won't be far behind.

Poor guy, no voting going his way, future filled with "boys" noticing his girls, then weddings, he had better have fun while he can...pretty soon he'll be too old and broke to have any fun. :neener:

kudu,

Now tell the truth here my friend. :p

kudu, hanging his head and scuffing his toe in the dirt with his hands in his pockets

Yes I know it's just a matter of time before certain guns get appropriated away from me, but in the meantime....

BTW sm, I shot two more rounds of skeet with it yesterday, a 19 and a 23. Missed high 5 twice. :cuss: I'm starting to get it dialed in where it shoots on targets, even with the triggers as heavy as they are. ;)

:)

High 5 never gave me problems, now low 5 used to give my partners a problem and watching them shoot L5 would cause me to miss...

I'll shoot H 5 , you take L5 just in case...I'm to the point life it ain't the scores - it is the fact I'm having fun.

I've played the "scores game". It can get in the way of the fun part. :)

I betcha once the triggers get smooth , you find you are shooting "ahead of " these H 5. With your trigger time and experience, little 36 ga is getting out too far ahead.

I found I used to shoot ahead of targets with single shot .410s . My style of shooting from low gun and swing through method was allowing me to get way out in front.

I betcha... :)

CZ is a very quality oriented concern IMO.
Huglu has had a spotty reputation for quality if the posts on the shotguns forums can be believed.

If CZ CZ-USA can get the manufacturer in Turkey to do things right, I think it's a good thing for them and the consumer. Me thinks IZH shotguns will be no different in quality than they have been, just lots more expensive since Big Green took over US distribution.

Competition in the lower priced end of the O/U market can't be a bad thing for people looking for something in that tool kit.

I don't know a lot about the Turkish arms industry except for the Verona 12 ga automatic I bought a few years back which has been a great shotgun.

Best guys,

S-
