Hunting/fishing near Alamosa Colorado??

Does any body know how the hunting/fishing is near Alamosa Colorado? I just found out that my family has owned a bunch of land out there for about thirty years. I don't know too many details about it and no one has been out there since it was purchased. No one told me and I'm the only hunter/fisherman in the family that would have any interest in it. And I've been looking for a good reason to get the heck out of so cal and not look back.

Need to be more specific than "near Alamosa". Alamosa in in the San Luis Valley, some fishing in the Rio, not great. Good to excellent waterfowl near. It's not far to mountains (I suppose "not far" is subjective) where there is good elk/deer hunting, also lots of good trout fishing, and it's not far to good Pronghorn oppertunities, but it depends a little on what one considers near. Do you own farm land or is it the more traditional out of state poccesion of a "mountain retreat" that may well not even have access? In general, if one lives in the Alamosa area and is outdoor oriented, it is a great location, in fact hard to beat, nearly a paradise. Alamosa per se is in flat farm country. Oh, it does get chilly on occasion during the winter, often being the coldest place in the lower 48!

Thanks for the info. Here in so cal I drive four hours for decent quail and three for decent duck and dove. Too many people locally. I really don't know much about the land and neither does anybody else. A road trip might be in need. It was inherited from my grandparents who passed on long ago and my family has just been paying taxes on it since. I guess my concern is if I can't hunt on the land my family owns that there is public land around that I can (BLM, preserves etc)? And I spend a lot of time in the outdoors, so don't let my CA status fool you. I've spent most of the free time in my life high up in the Eastern Sierras away from people and the smog. Cold really isn't an issue, I can always put another layer on. My problem is here I can only take so many clothes off because of the scorching heat. I've been planning on moving for some time and just looking for the right opportunity. Thanks again for the info
