...that I'm just not a handgun guy. I want to like shooting them, I really do! Handguns, to me, are far more attractive than rifles and shotguns... some of them are true works of art in my eyes. But I just like shooting rifles exponentially more. When I think about going to the range, its not to shoot my CZ75, its to work up a load for my Remington 700, or blast away at gongs at 300 yards with my AR.

Anyone else feel this way? Hopefully I'm not alone in this...

Nope. I like handgun shooting and long gun shooting.

I see no reason for myself to pick one over the other. Both have their place and variety is a good thing. Too each their own though. ........

primalmu, have you tried any of the organized handgun shooting games, or have you stuck to plinking outdoors and paper punching indoors?

For a long time handguns were just something to do, I CC so now I'm taking them more serious but Hunting is still what I enjoy the most.

I'm a shotgun guy myself. Never had much interest in handguns till I hit mid 40's. Mostly a hunter and sporting clays shooter growing up.
Started shooting USPSA and shooting some steel and bowling pin matches. Lots of fun!
Now I have a wide range of handguns to play with.

I'm more or less the same way. I shoot handguns to practice for the times when I might NEED a handgun. But shooting rifles and shotguns is much more enjoyable. Revolvers are my exception. Nice revolvers, not snubbies, are pretty fun. My dad bought a stainless Ruger GP100 3" a few years ago. I love that gun. I worked up a .38spl handload for it thats accurate enough for deer hunting at 100yards, but probably much too weak.

I cant say whether I like shooting handguns or rifles more. But I can say that lately Ive been more interested in shooting rifles more.

I'm about split between the two. I will go shoot, at the drop of a hat, either rifle or pistol. Love 'em both. I'm not as good with pistol...but then I'm not great with rifle either. I think I just like shooting!

I like the shotguns but I don't shoot them as much.

My co-worker is strictly a pistol shooter. Could care less for rifles.

Funny how that works.

Mark

I have sold my entire handgun collection and kept only one 9mm wonderpistol. Handguns are simply a tool to me and hold almost zero interest. Rifles however melt my butter. Shotguns I couldnt care less about.

I would say I'm pretty equal but then I am willing to spend a lot more money on rifles/accessories than handguns. What I think of as a far-too-expensive handgun might be one of multiple accessories on a rifle.

hmmm

I shoot mostly pistol, half the time rifles, and rarely the scatter guns.

It's just more rewarding to get instant feedback at 10 yards than it is shooting and walking 100.
Of course busting a clay is fun too but frustrating when you only hit 50%.
I think my right hand/left eye dominance is why I prefer and shoot pistols the best.

Anyone else feel this way?

I have always thought "rifle" first when it comes to firearms. Even when I come visit THR, I stop in to see what is going on in Rifle Country first.

Second is handguns. I still shoot them though and have fun doing so. Even when I shoot concealed carry guns.

Third is shotguns. Unfortunately, I hardly touch 'em anymore.

I've always been a handguner. Rifles are fun too. I have 3.

My favorite is a Ruger No.1 chambered in S&W 460 mag.

I'm just a gun guy. I like shooting them all. Some more than others obviously, but that's not limited by the genre of firearm, but most notably the materials it is made from. Steel frames for me please. I was a rifle guy growing up with very little interest in handguns until I saw jerry miculek and Bob munden doing some crazy things I thought were not possible. Rifle type accuracy in handgun form...I'm in. Now rifles take a back seat simply because there's not much excitement in poking holes in paper unless they are a half mile away which brings in a new skill set and a totally different challenge. 1000 yard ranges aren't very common, so those fun days are few and far between. Shotguns are also interesting as you can do so much up close and personal with motion. Add slugs to the still - game and you can get even more creative, but pineapple juice cans get as expensive as slugs do.

My sickness is is beyond help. I love and regularly shoot alll 3: shotguns -trap & skeet- pistol galore and rife: the AR .22LR variety.

There was a time in my life when my primary interest in firearms was long guns. Then came the time when I preferred to shoot shotguns and the shooting sports that went along with them. While I still enjoy birdhunting with a scattergun and shooting sporting clays, if I'm just going to the range to make noise and send projectiles downrange, nowadays I prefer Handguns to be that platform that does it.

My gun interests go something like this:
1) Handguns
2) Rifles
3) Shotguns

I have always been fascinated by revolvers and semi-auto pistols, starting from when I was a kid with toy guns through to the present day.

I won't go to the range anymore to just shoot paper, unless it's to sight in, or break-in, a new handgun. Maybe it's the cost involved these days, but to go and drop 'X' amount of money at my local indoor range doesn't do a thing for me anymore.

But shooting paper with a rifle.......that's different. I love shooting clover leaf groups at a distance.

Maybe if I had an outdoor range like hickok45, I would spend more time shooting my handguns.

Well, I'm glad to know that at least my preferences aren't abnormal! I agree wow6599, if I had a range like hickok45 I'd probably shoot my handguns MUCH more frequently.

Guns are tools for me. I practice with them to stay proficient. I dont love shooting (I do enjoy the satisfaction of improvement) and would rather do other things. But as a responsible gun owner I feel that it is important to constantly improve my skill.

I go to the range every other week and try to shoot 200 or so rounds alternating between rifle and pistol.

I try to limit the types of guns I have to what I can practice with.

I shoot rifles and pistols. I try to hit steel at 150 yds with pistols. I'm getting better with that. Need much more practice which I don't mind at all.

If all I had were semi-autos, I wouldn't be a handgun guy either. Fortunately, I've acquired some very accurate and some very powerful revolvers over the years. They've kept handgunning interesting. The semi-autos?...not so much.
