I just got a chief special and want a outside the pants hip holster in leather.
All I see is synthetic inside the pants or plastic rigs!
Has the world passed me by?
Does anyone make a factory rig?

Sure they are still made. I use an economy Tagua from Argentina. It works fine and still fits tightly. Same gun, only lightweight. Sorry no stamping at all on it.

The CS is wonderful light weight S&W pistol and you should be able to find serviceable inexpensive Uncle Mike's cloth holster for yours at most well-stocked gun stores. Please forgive them for assuming you have bought five-shot revolver. We know those are only for people who never held gun in their hand before. You know what they say at counters of LGSs "just look through sights and pull the trigger Ms".

+1 on the Tagua. I've got one that can be inside pants or outside pants. Pretty universal holster, and very affordable.

I use it only if carrying IWB, because my Bianchi suits me better for OWB. Either way, one of the better real leather holsters in that price range (got mine for around $25).

I don't have a Tagua for a revolver, but I have two for my PF9 Kel-Tec. One is an OWB belst-slide, and the other is a rigid IWB unit (the latter is always worn between the belt and pants, not actually inside-the-waistband.) They're both great holsters; I think I paid around $25 for the first one, and $20 for the second, including a couple of bucks markup for being left-handed.

Plenty of factory choices out there, but if you can wait a month or two, check out rgrizzleleather.com. I have 3 from him. IWB for my j frames and IWB and OWB for my sp101. I have one of Ray's Holsters and it has held up very well for several years of competition use. This one is the classic clam-shell OWB for small wheelguns, and at $35 it's hard to beat the price!

The paddle is just too convenient for slipping on over a belt or, in my case, jeans w/ no belt works also.

Especially if you like the thumb-break type holsters. Triple K makes the "440 - Lightning Two Way Holster," a thumb-break model, for just about every popular handgun. Belt-loop design allows you to wear a single holster strong-side or cross-draw, depending on your mood. Here's one I got a couple years ago for my Single-Six .32 H&R Magnum.

...and they don't charge a fortune for them either!

Well the Old Fuff admits to being archaic, but also having the knowledge and experience that goes with it.

And these days his feeble body is usually protected with either a .38 or .44 Special in a 5-shot snubby. Even in the Arizona/Mexican border country I haven't found this to be a serious handicap...

But to each his own.
