It was very close, about 3 days before the 45 day cutoff date, but I got it! To give a physical description, it looks like a driver's license with no backing lettering. It says "Washington County, OR Concealed Handgun License", my photo, my addy, my signature, my hieght, weight, and DOB. It also features my photograph, and a CHL number in red (which will not be given out). It also features an "Issued by Sheriff Robert Gordon", as well.

Also, another neat thing about it is that it features a gold handgun holographic label at the top right hand side. It's the outline of a Kel-Tec P32.

In any case, I can carry in Oregon, as well as Alaska, Vermont, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Utah, Montana, and Idaho.

I've been waiting for this for years, waiting for my 21st birthday and I still can't believe I got it. :D :)

Lonnie,

Woo hoo! Congratulations.

Congratulations!

I wonder if Kel Tec knows the P-32 outline is being used?

Dont have it here in Jackson Co. Way to go though! Got mine last summer, took me 21 days from date of application to delivery!

I applied on November 12th, got my appointment on the 19th. Permit arrived at the 28th of December. 11 days left in November, 28 days in December. 39 days, actually, so there was actually 6 days left in the statutory window of issuance.

The permit was valid from 12/10, though. I wonder why it took 18 days from the permit being created for it to arrive at my door. I was beginning to get an itchy dialing finger for after the new year began.

What do you mean by the 45 day cutoff date. Has Oregon stopped issuing permits?

Lonnie:

I share your happiness but on the otherhand am sad for those THRers who live in states where they can't hope to obtain a CCW permit. As Ralph Wiggum once said "I'm happy, I'm sad" :) :(

I'm happy for ya. I too, feel for the folks that can't legally carry. As a gun enthusiest who escaped California I feel as if I've been reborn anew. God bless Washington State!:D

It's the period of time that the issuing authority has to issue you a permit or deny you a permit solely on the grounds of whether or not you pass the background check.

Next on the list is Washington.

Lonnie,

If i remember correctly, the 45 days start from the day that you go in for your "interview" and to have your fingerprints taken. At least that is what i was told when i applied. Took me around 22 days after my "interview" before i got it in the mail.

Congrats Lonnie!

I dont remember Washington having an "Oregon County", what happened to reciprosity?:D

Speaking of reciprosity, I thought that Or. and Wa. had reciprosity:confused: I better look into that.

Oregon and Washington are both shall-issue states for residents.

Oregon has a training requirement; Washington does not.

Washington is shall-issue for non-residents as well as residents.

Oregon is may-issue for non-residents, and has a requirement that non-residents be residents of neighboring states (eg, no issue for residents of Florida; only for residents of states which touch Oregon).

The two states are not reciprocal and do not honor each others' permits. Furthermore, reciprocity is unlikely in the extreme, since both states are primarily run by Dems. Washington is fortunate to have held onto its pre emption law for so long.

Neither Oregon or Washington have any form of reciprocity or recognition. There was an attempt to pass reciprocity recognition on both states, but both Governors, who are both Democrats, vetoed it.

If you're a Washington resident, and want to get an Oregon CHL, I would recommend Clatsop County on the Oregon coast. They've been extremely helpful for Washington residents with CPL's.

You *could* try Washington County, and say you're applying because you want to travel in Oregon and want to be legal to carry your self defense handgun, but I have no guarantee of what Sheriff Gordon will do. My efforts to get him to auto-approve all non-resident CHL's right off the bat has ran into potholes due to incorrect interpretations by the head of the CHL unit here, and he's more willing to listen to them then listen to me.

what did you mean next on the list is wa.? I just got back from my wifes parents in bend, I need to get an oregon permit, it stinks being illegal as soon as I cross that border.....tom

I'm sorry, but I'm getting a little aggravated right now with people not understanding what I'm saying.

Washington COUNTY is where my permit is issued. The State of Washington CPL is the next permit I'm going to get.

tomkatz, contact the Clatsop County Sheriff's office in Astoria, and ask for the CHL unit. You can call them at (503) 325-8635. Explain to them that you travel to Oregon and want to be legal to carry your self defense firearm. They should be able to help you out.

Lonnie, thanks for the info, and I guess I'm a little paranoid, when you said next on the list is wa., I was afraid you meant they were going to change some law here to make it harder to get a permit....tom
