I like it here, at THR

In my "real life", I'm known to be the type who might say three whole sentences all day and I'm about as sociable as a nail.

But, yes, this is a very enjoyable place for me also.

At any rate, guess I should have added a big note of thanks to the Admins/Moderators for keeping this a civil place where folks are meant to feel welcome. Folks just seem to behave like their in someone else's living room instead of the Internet

I agree.
I've joined several other forums but virtually all my internet time is spent here at THR. Not only do I appreciate the way this operation is run, but I've learned more USEFUL information on this forum than from the hundreds of gun magazines I've read over the years.
And the operative word here is "USEFUL".

I've been around here for a while. I also belong to, and participate in a half dozen or so other "gun" forums. (Hey. I'm retired. What else have I got to do?) While I've never found one to be much "better" than another, I will say THR is one of the best. I do find more interesting things to "listen to" here, and every once in a while I think I might even be able to contribute something to the discussion.

I know just enough to realize just how much I don't know.

I have lurked on a couple of others and even joined one once, but the thing I noticed about most others is that there are usually only 40-60 people online at a time. here there are always a fairly significant number. It is good to have a large pool of knowledge to draw from at any given time.

i am a "member" of several. but this is the ONLY one i come to DAILY! and in most cases, several times a day! this is the best site i have ever been a part of. PERIOD!

smartest guys I ever met hang out here. A real friendly bunch, willing to share thier huge knowledge, Ya I like it a lot. All my interests guns knives, rifles. I lurk more than I post, but boy is it cool.

Out of all the gun related forums I have been to , this has been the most informative and fastest response time by far. Since I started reloading and didn't know anyone who did, I received a lot of help here, casting too. It may sound wierd, but I look forward to checking this site everyday.

Belong to several other forums and this is the best one. One of the other forums is mostly political trash talk: Thankfully that is not allowed here.

I'd like the thank Oleg and the mods too!

The only other gun forums I ever visit on the internet are Rimfirecentral, GBO and TFL. There are a few non gun related forums like Trailspace and a few truck, atv or hiking related forums that I frequent that are also well behaved. I can't stomach the intolerance and juvenile behavior found on most forums.

This is my only gun forum.... never even tried any others because my questions got answered here quickly and politely... being a member of other forums for other subjects I knew what a rarity this was, but when I saw people saying things like "that's not very 'highroad' ", and leaving it at that for a reply when someone else was being obnoxious... well, that's when I knew this would be a good place to hang out now and again....

It takes two to Tango, and the guys who act like jerks here end up dancing alone.....

I lurk more than I post

I'll add to that idea.

A few days ago I was cranky and out of sorts. It stemmed from numerous business and domestic issues, and I got very self-reflective for three days.

Now get this, one of my worries was posting here in that mood. I was worried I'd get sarcastic and hurt someone's feelings or get myself banned.

If you check my useage you'll find that I signed on to lurk, but did not post.

This is the first time I ever felt that way for a forum.

Hey Giz- glad ta see ya here... now ya can talk of them rugers freely unlike on the smith board :D

tallpaul,,,,

Amen, brother:)
And that really says it all............

It is often hard to separate politics from guns, and political discussions are often partisan and can get mean.

THR has many very knowledgeable gun folks who talk about gun related stuff. I appreciate this aspect of this site very much.

Thank you, Moderator, for a great site

THR is a great forum, and as someone who has been around for a while, I can say that it has been consistently good. I occasionally lurk but rarely post on RimfireCentral, and thats a pretty good forum too. I have looked at other gun forums, but between the focus on rimfires of RimfireCentral and the general wealth of knowledge and sense of community here at THR, I just don't see any particular reason to go to other forums.

It's funny how often THR comes up in conversation with my buddies and family. I was talking to my stepdad the other day and I must have said "On my gun forum, some guy said..." at least 5 or 6 times in the space of ten minutes, lol...

I and others that have posted on this thread were around when we did have political forums, and they were exactly as you describe. Despite occasional protest that we don't have a political section specific to THR (as opposed to APS), I can assure you that from my point of view, we are a better board without it.

:what:HELLO!:uhoh:

What am I, chopped liver?:banghead:

Just kidding!!!:D

THR and Defensivecarry are the only two forums I frequent and post to the most. I like the clean, non-confrontational formats of both. I've read some pretty nasty forums, that all they do is argue and carry on like a bunch of idiots. I don't have time nor the desire for that nonsense. SO, thanks Oleg and the rest of the gang here.

I am a member of 4 gun forums, but this is the one I spend the most time at.

I too am a member of 5 gun forums, this is the only one I ask most of my questions due to the amount of people who don't bs you. It's friendly, mods don't get overly protective, no church mumbo jumbo, and politics outside guns are basicly banned, which cuts down on most of the big fights. Plus, where else could you find out if X caliber is sufficient enough to kill zombie soccer moms, open cans of fruit of rip the face off a paper bad guy?

I belong to about 4 other forums.

A few years ago, so did I. I've found (the hard way) that I'd rather discuss topics with a smaller group of guys, the sort of people you always hope will answer your threads.

As you know, I asked another forum to "ban" me while I took a breather. Well, my 'sentence' is over, I'm a completely rehabilitated individual, so I went back this afternoon to have a look at the old place. I just couldn't connect to any of the ideas listed.

I posted nothing.

I really need Keeping Sharp in KF and coming here to THR. I look forward to signing on over the morning coffee.

The only thing I hate about politics being banned in forums is; politics has everything to do with our basic God-given rights. Oh, well... The pendulum is slowly swinging from left to right, right to left... I guess it is a "waiting game".
