I could hardly believe my ears tonite when me and my wife were talkin I was saying how much I want a Springfield 1911 she actually said that I could sell her gun and pay the difference for one. You see last time we were at the range I was busy plinkin with the .22 so she picked up my P90 and started going to town. It turns out that she loves it more than her .40 S&W Sigma, in fact before I knew it she burnt thru 3 boxs of ammo and was going into the shop to buy more. Now my question is since I won't have too much extra to spend can I buy a Mil-Spec and upgrade it slowly?

can I buy a Mil-Spec and upgrade it slowly?

Of course! But you may find you don't need to. I know plenty of shooters who are perfectly content with a stock mil-spec 1911.

Now let's see... location of Eastern North Carolina, handle of "crewchief", sounds like a recipe for New River or Cherry Point?

Wow your good with the location. Actually I live in New Bern which you probally know is sandwitched between them. This is the funny thing though I was actually an Army crewchief.:D Anyhow the reson I was talking about upgrading was because I know that the Mil-Spec is a good gun out of the box I just want to put a better trigger and hammer on it. I am not new to guns just a 1911 virgin.

New Bern??? I know where that is:D

get yourself a springy mil-spec...but think about different sights, maybe a different hammer and maybe a beavertail grip safety and thumb saftey...thats about it...mine has the sights changed and thats it so far...

Last time I was looking at a used gun that I really wanted, I made the comment to the store owner that it was pretty dirty. My wife chimes in with, "go ahead and buy it, I'll clean it up when we get home". YOU JUST GOTTA LOVE A WOMAN THAT ENCOURAGES YOU TO BUY A GUN AND WILL CLEAN IT FOR YOU TOO :D

That is pretty lucky omega. I was actually a Apache crewchief in the Army and not just on a pretty flightline I was out in the dirt and got a combat patch for it. Anyways I know this has probally been adressed before, but I read that the holes for the sights are slightly different on the Mil-Spec will that limit me to what I can buy? I would like to throw on some adj. nite sites. I don't want to go crazy with the mods but enough for it to be used for some friendly compition and light IDPA shooting. Who am I kidding I will probally be bit by the 1911 bug and go crazy.:p

crewchief,
i dont know how much you are limited by the sights that go in after the old ones are discarded...I think you would need to have a new slot cut anyway....

BTW...I once saw an a-10 and a Apache at a airshow once:D

Get the Mil-Spec and then shoot it, decide what you want to change or not. Me i own a GI Mil-Spec totaly stock, i doubt very much that i am in any way hindered or handicapped with it. I don't buy into changing something just to change it based on some one elses experince, go with what works for you.

you forgot Seymore Johnson AFB, not AS far east but still in eastern NC (least to those of us who grew up in the Raleigh/Durham/chapel Hill area)

This just keeps getting better. I was looking at gunbroker and my wife saw a stainless loaded model and said, "Wow that one looks nice....oh that price isn't too bad why don't you get that one?" I must have done something right lately or she has her eye on something else. Oh well I don't care as long as I have my hands on a 1911 soon.
