Here's the deal. I want a MOLOT J.S.C. VEPR .308 rifle. I want the 20" barreled version.

See, I need an AK type, and I like .308, and the VEPR is much nicer than the Saiga, so it's perfect.

At any rate, I know Robinson still has a few of these (that they haven't converted to the VEPR II). I'd prefer the original; I have a FAL; I don't see getting this converted to M14 mags or anything. (I hear they don't work so well anyway.) I'd be plenty happy with the 5 and 10 round magazines.

I'm wondering, though. Does anybody else import these? Can anybody beat Robinson's $599 price? And somebody MUST be able to beat Robinson's $39.99 price for their 10-round magazines...

Robinson Arms is the only one that imports the VEPR's. The 308 mags are proprietary, so RA can charge whatever they want. And they do. The mags used to run $50 each.
I thought about one myself, but I just can't justify that much when I could have a good FAL with parts and mags everywhere for about $100 more.

Actually, I heard Federal Arms has 'em. I emailed them and asked.

In any case, looking at the price of the 10-round magazines, it'd probably be more economical to buy a VEPR II .308 (with pistol grip and US parts) and have it converted by Krebs to take M14 or Galil magazines.

12 and 15 round Galil preban mags run $10 cheaper than 10 round VEPR mags.

M14 mags are more available, but I've heard that the M14 magazine conversion doesn't have the same reliability. I'd rather have a very reliable 10+1 gun than a spotty 20+1 gun.

Too bad Krebs can't make one for FAL mags. It'd be sweet if it could use the same mags as my FAL...

:D

I can't remember exactly where I copped this pic, but, it's a VEPR .308 in scout configuration, and I think it's wicked looking.
