Okay, here's comes the fusillade. I'm a registered Democrat, and I'm completely pro-gun rights. An oxymoron for most if not all of you? Am I alone? Let the bullets fly.

I should also state that my quote from Dianne Feinstein is not because I support her. It's because I think she's a ridiculous hypocrite.

Well, maybe your post will help other Democrats out of the closet, it just takes one brave soul.

I have always said that amongst the Democrats, there are at least 50% of them that own guns, I know I am right and this is why we should not take the fight to personal levels. In fact, the lawyer defending Heller is not a gun owner, now that should be an oxymoron.

Anyway, welcome friend, gun owner or not.

I don't know what I am now

Do you know of any other Democrats who are pro gun rights? I'm curious.

I'm a registered Republican, but the current party doesn't represent what it originally stood for in the past. And the more you look at either party, there isn't much difference in the outcome.

Actually, I'm almost a Democrat too.
I'm not registered (I'm an independent) but I generally agree with a lot of their ideas.
Unfortunately, they don't respect my rights so I can't give them my total support.

They've just been behind too much anti-gun BS for me to ever fully trust them.

But you'll get no grief from me.
Welcome.

I voted independent. I am a registered Republican but I'm rather disgusted with the nominees my party has been choosing these days. They're not even running anyone for Congress in my district.

My hunting buddy is a Democrat and very pro-gun rights.

As for me, my political philosophy can be characterized as libertarian, although I am registered as a Republican.

+1 on what TheGoodLife had to say.

...and only believe in a long list of 'common sense' gun control laws to keep the guns in the right hands (eventualy nobody's), and/or support candidates who do.

Democrat/Republican/etc are nothing but names. They don't do much of anything for actually describing where people's beliefs actually fall.

Me personally, I identify most with a libertarian mindset.

every vote cast for a candidate of the Democratic party is a nail in the coffin of our second ammendment rights.

"pro-gun Democrat"

sounds like an oximoron to me

I really don't mind the Democrats that much. It's just that a good portion of them want to take my guns and/or prevent me from buying new AWs. Hell, I'm actually pretty liberal socially- I've just recently come to terms with this. I just can't ever cast my vote for someone who would deny me the right to protect myself. So I clicked Republican, which is what I'd vote in the current election.

I have some moderate leanings.
The problem of voting Dem even for a pro-gun nomimee for Prez(last was probably Hubert Humphrey,1968)all the committees, the majority leaders, etc.,may end up in Dem hands.
This alone has made me a one issue GOP voter in national and congressional elections.

So do you expect to vote for a pro-gun presidential Democrat candidate in November? A pro-gun Congressional candidate or Senate Candidate?
State reps who support the second amendment?

What Are their names?

Or are you one of those people who prioritizes other political issue ahead of the second amendment?

What's most important?

Without the most important civil right, any other imagined right is merely a privilidge allowed you by your masters.

In fact, the lawyer defending Heller is not a gun owner, now that should be an oxymoron.

With all due respect - and remember, I said with all due respect (homage to Talladega Nights), i disagree. As a former criminal defense attorney, I didn't represent criminals because I agreed with their right to commit crimes. I defended them because I agreed to uphold the Constitution (and its amendments), which allows due process, equal protection, etc. If I couldn't represent the bad guys, I equally couldn't represent the good guys - the Constitution is blind to the person and speaks only to the conduct of the state against the person. In my mind, it was always the Constitution I was defending.

Sharing with us is fine. What you need to do is tell the Democratic Party that you are pro-gun rights and if they expect you to continue to support them that they had dern well offer candidates that unreservedly support your right, exclusive of and pre-existing the Second Amendment, to keep and bear arms. I know Democrats who espouse undying support for the Second Amendment, yet at election time they line up and vote for whomever the union tells them needs to be elected or for the guy who supports whatever social cause they think is attractive even though that guy might hate guns and gun owners, is adamantly opposed to CCW, CCW on campus, hunting, etc. That's the sort of behavior that has emboldened the national leadership of the Democratic Party. It has to stop, partner, or your own party will sell you and your rights down the river.

For the record, I was a registered Democrat with a "gun rights" espousing Democratic Congressman who helped shepherd the AWB through Congress. I changed parties, and that SOB didn't get re-elected after most of his adult life was spent representing his district.

Just my thoughts,

ECS

Both my Democratic state rep and Congresscritter are rated A by the NRA.

I would have voted for Richardson for President (also NRA A rated) if the DNC hadn't trashed him.

A recent Congressional race had an anti-gun Dem losing by a very close margin, likely because a lot of gun owning Dems staying home.

We're working on it.

I voted Independent in the poll. Essentially I have the right to vote but increasingly I find myself unable to vote for anyone, only against those who I feel are the most feckless. I may not even bother next election. :banghead:

The ONLY reason I registered as a republican in CA was so that i could vote for Ron Paul in the Primary

Now i must choose, write Paul on the ballot, or vote for Obama, Mclame is the same as bush, they are both puppets

Just one question for the Democrats here -

"How does it feel to know that the leaders of your party are going to trash the Second Amendment in the next few years?"

Now I'm in no way saying that republicans will have no part in it, because there are a few, in the senate especially, that will go along. But the vast majority of supporters of UNCONSTITUTIONAL gun control legislation are Democrats.

I just want your thoughts on how you feel knowing that the party you choose to align yourself with will be primarily responsible.

I'm an independent.
