I agree, Mr. Sig, probably was more of a reaction, regardless it went down successfully, as I have mentioned in other postings, after having thought about it, might have done many things different
As for cutting up the unit, it was probably more of gotcha than anything else, I did enjoy doing it.
Best thing out of the whole ordeal is my neighbor is now a gun toting one, his wife enjoyed shooting the .22 walthers and my s & w .22, so she's gonna be a convert also, she did like the 9mm, so we'll see.
Funny how a few moments can change a persons attitude towards things.
thanks for the comments to all.

I must say, well-done. When you deal with trash, you have to be firm, and even unlike how you would deal with more civilized people. It's good that no shots had to be fired. You're the one that left him something to remember, not like he had planned. He basically expected you to wait on him, to see if MAYBE he actually liked the axles, and DECIDED to buy them, hmm.

In response to Knockit's last post, that is good that you 'recruited' some new firearm enthusiasts! It is pathetic, what some people relate ALL firearms to: violence, robberies, death, crime, etc. When, they are really for protection, protecting, recreation (of all sorts), sport, collection, and (unfortunately) sometimes for illegal purposes.

Under the circumstances I think you did fine. Glad no one was hurt.

The only things I would have done different is:

1) I would not have opened the screen door. I don't want to give someone irate a change to come into my home.

When I think about this situation I end up wondering what would have happened once he showed the gun. With the door between him and me, he might reach for his gun ending in a shooting.

2) I would have made the dude kiss concrete while 911 is called.

3) I would not have cut up the Jennings.

Of course I say this from the comfort of my home without fear and adrenaline coursing through my body.

irate

Ha Ha, I think I have helped create a monster,
my neighbor has gone out in the last few weeks and picked up three units, a 9mm, a 380, and a shotgun, just got back from the range and he and his wife had a blast, she is really turned towards the weapons, says she is taking a ccw class next weekend and plans on carrying the ruger .380, he says he is gonna take the class with her and then take a tactical handgun class,
Wow, never dreamed this situation would help convert someone.
ha
happy weekend

Sounds like you handled it really well. Hope if I'm ever in a similar situation I'll do as well. The only thing I would do differently is not cut up the gun. But that's already been said.

To Imarugerfan

Not sure really, seemed like the thing to do, swung the security door open and confronted him, when he lifted the shirt he was all puffed up and in the brag zone and I was in the kick his axx zone, he never expected me to approach so fast, probably was pretty sure the weapon scared me, while it did, my anger or ??took over and swiped it from him, at the same time I almost fed him the .45 barrel, anyway thats pretty much how I think it went,
Cutting the unit up was anger, defiance, not sure, but had a lot of fun doing it, possession is 9/10's or at least thats what I've been taught.
Just glad it went down the way it did. Its no fun shooting someone,
My neighbor is outta control, ha ha, he has found a new hobby and is enjoying it so much, and I might say is becoming one heckuva shot.
Don't want him to know, but his wife is better, what do ya know, Ha

[qoute]BTW, I happen to be a fan of Byrco, Lorcin, Jennings, Jiminez. They honestly are not bad weapons and folks who talk smack about them have never owned one.[/quote]

My dad had a Jennings .22. It had like a 20 pound trigger & would stove pipe every third or fourth round. It sucked.

I just happen to have had a few parts for a jenny, gave them to po po, so to speak, sorry, nothing against the unit, just the idea it came with at the time.
My neighbor is outta control, ha, I can't help but to become an even better shooter than I am, he wants to go to the range once a week.
Gosh its fun, ha

A lot of folks can second guess exactly what you could/should have done. However, you didn't do anything wrong or illegal AND the dirtbag got what he needed.

Frankly, I would have loved to have been the officer writing that report!

I think you did just fine. Second guessing is alot more of a head game on yourself than most people think. The fact is you de-escalated a situation and handled it in a manner that didn't end in loss of life while protecting your own.

Had I been you, I probably wouldn't have confronted the person close enough to grab his pistol, I would have taken a step back while firing for effect into center mass.

or

I would hve just closed the door on him at the first sign he was getting puffy in which case, he may have fired shots through the door.

There's alot of ways it COULD have been handled. You did the right thing.

I see no problems here. He brandished in a very threatening manner, and you took aim. He backed down, and you let him leave. You then called the authorities and cooperated. It went as well as it could have.

Here in philly the neighbors would probably wait until someone was done mugging me, and then proceed to rob me of anything that the original mugger didn't take

Honest truth in too many parts of the country :( A guy I've done work with lost control of his car in detroit (OK the guy is a piece of trash and was *probably* drinking, though I have no proof) and what happened to him? Instead of anyone helping him, punk thugs robbed him and took his beer he had gone to pick up. Now frankly from my point of view it sucks that it happened to him but he was in the wrong neighborhood, doing presumably dumb things and perhaps a gun might not have helped. just goes to show you though that the assumption of people helping you is not necessarily accurate. Good reaction though to the O.P. Can't say I'd handle it as well, seeing as I've never had it happen to me. Did have my CZ PCR though on my a month or so ago when I sold something on Craigslist
